  • DCA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Agroecology Research Associate to join our team in Kakuma for an exciting role furthering knowledge on derisking agroecology in the ASAL context in Kenya. The successful candidate will work closely with our research team to conduct and support agroecological research initiatives. This position will report to the Kakuma-based Project Officer – Food Security & Livelihoods and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and knowledge generation aimed at sustainable agricultural practices and food systems in ASAL regions of Kenya.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agronomy, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in agroecological research, including fieldwork and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles and their application to agricultural systems.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software and GIS tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present research findings.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with grant writing and research proposal development is desirable.
  • Familiarity with sustainable agriculture practices and agroecological principles is preferred.
  • Experience working in multicultural or international settings is an asset.

  • Conduct field and/or laboratory research related to agroecology, including but not limited to crop management, soil health, pest management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of agroecology research experiments and trials in line with project goals and objectives.
  • Collect and analyze agroecology research data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
  • Contribute to the preparation of agroecology research reports, scientific publications, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with team members and external partners to achieve the agroecology research objectives.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments and advancements in agroecology research.
  • Assist in securing additional research funding through grant writing and proposal development.
  • Participate in outreach and knowledge-sharing activities, including workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Provide support and guidance to other staff supporting/ involved in the agroecology research project.
  • Maintain project research equipment, supplies, and facilities as needed.
