PAUSTI is seeking to engage the services of Laboratory Technologist Individual Service Provider for a

period of Twelve (12) months renewable, based on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.


Qualifications

- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering or related fields. A BA

qualification is considered an added advantage.


General Work Experience

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Electrical Engineering laboratory.

Previous working experience in African Union working environment and higher educational institution will have an added advantage

- Demonstrated experience in handling electrical testing and measuring equipment.

- Experience in an academic or research environment is preferred.


Skills & Competences

- Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and laboratory instrumentation.

- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations.

- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

- Strong organizational and documentation skills.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Language Requirement:

- Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of other working languages (French, Portuguese, and Kiswahili & Arabic) of the African Union is an added advantage.


Responsibilities

- Maintain an updated inventory of laboratory tools, equipment, components, and consumables.

- Monitor stock levels of electrical components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, ICs,

cables, connectors, circuit breakers, and other consumables.

- Initiate timely procurement requests for laboratory materials.

- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and organization of laboratory items.

- Perform regular maintenance checks for laboratory instruments and equipment

- Ensure calibration and preventive maintenance of testing and measuring equipment.

- Maintain equipment logbooks and service records..

- Prepare regular reports on equipment status, servicing, and repair needs.

- Coordinate with external service providers for specialized maintenance when required.

- Prepare laboratory setups for practical sessions.

- Assemble and test circuits before student practical sessions.

- Ensure availability of tools and equipment prior to scheduled practical classes.

- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory.

- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and institutional safety policies.

- Ensure proper grounding, insulation, and protection of equipment.

- Promote safe use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Ensure proper disposal of electronic waste in accordance with environmental regulations.

- Assist students during laboratory practical sessions and project work.

- Provide technical guidance on the use of electrical testing and measuring instruments.

- Assist in troubleshooting laboratory experiments and project systems.

- Liaise with the Programme Coordinator to specify laboratory requirements.

- Provide technical input in budgeting for laboratory equipment, consumables, and upgrades.

- Prepare periodic reports on Equipment condition and servicing status, Inventory and stock levels,

Laboratory utilization & Safety and compliance matters

- Maintain proper documentation of laboratory procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

- Participate in departmental meetings related to laboratory development when required.

- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director
