Description
- Master's degree and diploma or certificate in conference interpreting from a recognized institution. OR university degree in conference interpreting from a recognized institution.
- 10 years of experience in interpreting (four of which must have been as a full-time interpreter).
- It demonstrates the highest standards of accuracy, consistency, and fidelity to the style and nuances of the original and source languages.
- Proven understanding of how to evaluate interpretation teams.
- Ability to maintain the highest standard of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of terminological and reference research techniques, with the ability to utilize a wide variety of information.
Responsibilities
- Ability to lead assigned programs and projects, providing the management and operational expertise necessary to fulfill the organization's mandate (e.g., establishing networks and referrals).
- Ability to lead by example and organize teamwork to encourage cooperation in achieving expected results, advocate for and create momentum for change, and foster employee engagement; Create and implement internal controls for pilot programs to manage potential barriers to implementation.
- Excellent personal management skills, demonstrating ethics and integrity, confidentiality, and due respect for internal rules, delegations, and transparency.
- The ability to bring together complementary skills/knowledge, evaluate individual contributions, and recognize/address achievements and shortcomings in order to bring continuous success to the organization.
- Knowledge of program management at the level typically acquired through a program management certification (e.g., Successful Program Manager (MSP) or PgMP Program Management Professional).
- Ability to research benchmarks and trends to provide the best recommendations for creating and improving programs/projects that best serve the community/organization.
- Strong interpersonal and interaction skills to seek feedback, information, and data from a network of professionals across various countries/sectors/organizations, and to identify and prioritize the most critical community requirements.
- Ability to manage and coordinate customer management initiatives and make recommendations.
- Ability to develop and implement best practices in customer service (e.g., dashboards, incentive management, feedback mechanisms).
- Ability to develop and implement stakeholder management plans, programs, and initiatives to gain buy-in for new initiatives, better understand differing opinions, secure resources, and increase the perception of success.
- Ability to be diplomatic, tactical and respectful towards other people from diverse backgrounds, with different cultural perspectives, especially in West Africa, with the ability to turn diversity into opportunities to improve program/operational outcomes.
- The ability to create a diverse and inclusive interactive environment that benefits from various strengths by bringing together innovative practices.
- Ability to demonstrate objectivity in assessments, evaluations, and conflict management, regardless of cultural/positional differences, gender differences, and to encourage colleagues to overcome biases and cultural and gender differences.
- Ability to serve the interests of culturally diverse teams/organizations/communities and peoples, and people with disabilities, without prejudice, differences, or preferences.
- Understanding the organizational structure of ECOWAS, related dynamics, and expectations necessary to collaborate, participate, contribute, and lead effectively.
- Knowledge of ECOWAS's mandate, strategic plan/priorities, as well as the economic, political and social situation and trends in the member states, with regard to their own area of activity.
