Responsible for strategizing, implementing and monitoring the bank’s risk management function to ensure that the bank has an integrated enterprise risk management framework in place. In addition, the role is responsible for ensuring that the bank has risk benchmarks for every division within the bank and that all policies systems and programs are operating in accordance with best practice, regulatory guidelines and bank policies.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
- Professional qualifications in Risk Management e.g GARP, CISA, CFE, CRISC , CIA etc a prerequisite.
Required Experience and Competences:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, 5 years of which must have been at senior Management level
- Membership to a relevant professional body is an added advantage
Responsibilities
- Reviewing systems of risk management, monitoring, evaluation and assessing adequacy of these systems. Focusses increasingly on risk information management, the implementation and maintenance of risk processes and behavior modification.
- Developing, implementing and monitoring the bank’s risk framework by ensuring that all bank operating procedures meet the compliance requirements as defined by the regulator and bank policies. In managing and monitoring the risk framework the role is responsible for developing a structure that is cross cutting and flexible to change / adjust with the changing operating environment as and when required.
- Developing, monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the banks’ policies and procedures ensuring that all staff and management within the bank have a consistent interpretation of the guidelines; applications of policies are consistent and that any reviews are managed in a manner that does not adversely affect the bank operations.
- Develop and periodically review risk management limits, quantitative measurement ratios and information systems that address the Bank’s risk profiles in line with the Regulator guidelines, bank strategic business plan and best practice.
- Conduct scenarios analysis and review in a drive to assess potential risks to the business and identify possible solutions to avoid business interruptions and ensure that there is always business continuity. This includes conducting test programs, stress tests, benchmarking and research to appreciate and determine the impact of situations on the bank operations.
- Review and analyse the bank’s credit risk trends in accordance with the bank’s risk appetite by monitoring credit borrowing portfolio trends, reviewing concentration limits, analysing credit risk stress test activities and assessing the quality of the overall bank portfolio.
- Establish, through analysis of the market data, trends and behaviors of bank liquidity and bank capital adequacy, to provide the board and management with information that will enable comprehensive decision making and enable organization leadership.
- Lead in development of risk reports to management and the board, highlighting aspects of the business that may cause significant risk to enable the development of suitable and practical solutions to mitigate risk to the business.
- Coordinate the development and review of the annual divisional plan of the bank in line with the projected business growth levels thus ensuring the successful support of the bank’s business plan.
- Prepare annual budget and budget forecast and monitor monthly performance of the Business Unit with respect to the forecast budget and take appropriate actions if any.
- Provide strategic and supervisory leadership to the risk department and lead in the implementation of the performance management and Human Resources practices of the Bank.
