Are you anxious with all the uncertainty that comes with Coronavirus? You are not alone. We and millions of others across the world are too. In tough times like this, we have found it helpful to get guidance from trained psychologists. But not many people know one. So, we have partnered with Wazi, another member of the broader Fuzu family, to provide you access to a professional Counsellor during this very tough time.

The partnership gives you an opportunity to ask a professional Counsellor any questions that will help you manage anxiety or stress or anything else you may be feeling during these challenging times. If you are struggling with something, there are high chances others are too. Please ask to not only help yourself, but others as well.

Veronicah Ngechu is one of the Counsellors who’ll be responding to your questions to provide you with the support you need. Veronicah has 6+ years of experience as a professional Counsellor. She has a Higher Diploma of Psychological Counselling, Certificate in Counsellor Supervision and Certificate in Gender Based Violence.

Please submit your question in the comments and at the end of each day we will be publishing answers to the most 5-10 most frequently asked questions. Thanks for this article. I live alone, what is the best way to avoid depression if I will not be seeing anyone for some time now?

    Default profile photo 50

    Faith | March 31, 2020 13:36

Hello Alvin. Depression is marked by a feeling of helplessness, hopelessness and chronic low mood. It's important for you to engage in positive self talk to combat the feeling of hopelessness at this time as well as taking active responsibility in keeping yourself safe which will help combat the feeling of helplessness. Let's note that social distancing is not synonymous with social isolation. Keeping in touch with your friends and family using the different social platforms available is important as they provide the much needed social support system. Try to as much as possible engage in activities of daily living such as eating, working, exercising, sleeping and socializing within the stipulated safety guidelines. From Veronicah Ngechu.

You guys are doing a great job. What are some of the best practices when it comes to mental health during this period?

    Default profile photo 50

    Faith | March 31, 2020 13:23

Hello Naomi. Mental health is not isolated from general health. Therefore:Eat a balanced diet, get sufficient sleep (at least 7 hours) and get some physical exercise (something that can be done at home). Cognitive exercises including routine as well as games such as crossword puzzles help. Maintain a social support system through interaction within the available platforms while maintaining physical social distance. For Veronicah Ngechu.

When it comes to anxiety and extreme panic attacks, how best can I take care of myself?

    Default profile photo 50

    Faith | March 31, 2020 13:22

Hello Naomi. o you have a diagnosis for anxiety and/or panic disorder? If so, it's important that you keep in touch with your therapist or contact one at.www.wazi.co. If not, identify sources of the anxiety and it's possible triggers. Avoid the triggers whenever possible. If/When a panic attack comes on, there are several relaxation techniques that you can use. One is deep breathing exercises (in through your nose out through your mouth)' Counting the breaths backwards from 10 often helps. From Veronicah Ngechu.
