The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is a statutory body established by the Kenya Roads Acts, 2007.The Act also established other Roads Authority (RAs) and provided for their powers and functions as stipulated within the Act. In line with this, the Authority started its operations in the FY 2007/2008. It has a head office in Nairobi and ten (10) regional offices .Nairobi, Coast, Central, Lower Eastern, Upper Eastern, North Rift, North Eastern, Nyanza, South Rift and Western. KURA is responsible for the management, development, rehabilitation and maintenance of National Trunk Roads in the urban areas of the Republic of Kenya. Due to rapid urbanization, the network under KURA has increased to slightly above 4,000 Kms of road. Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) road network was 12,549 km until January 2016 when a new classification was gazetted. The reclassification was in line with the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya (CoK, 2010) that provides for the National and County Roads .After reclassification, KURA’s mandate was expanded to all counties in line with Article 6(3) of the CoK, 2010. In terms of coverage, KURA roads are estimated at 3.969.27 KM. The total paved roads are estimated at 465.92 kilometers while those that are unpaved are 3,503.35 KM
