The kind of jobs for creatives today were once looked at as small jobs or unprofessional. That is because they were not yet professionally taught and developed as careers people could pursue. However, it has become different lately, there are more areas of research in the creative industry, and pools of knowledge that provide opportunities for creatives to study, develop skills, and pursue careers which have led to the birth of jobs for creatives.

2. Events Decorator

I always love the look on people’s faces when they see a beautiful décor set up at birthdays, weddings, or baby showers - you name it! Doing a job that gives you a chance to make someone escape reality for a moment is a life wish.

Event decorators are creatives who have mastered the art of turning normal spaces into unimaginable realities. One of the key skills in this job is creativity, of course, communication and marketing. Also, one’s financial management skills should be well-sharpened.

Why would you wish you had this job?

  • You get to work closely with your clients to fulfill their dreams.

  • Your work is your advertising platform, imagine that!

  • Your weekdays are your relaxing days. As people rush to work on Mondays, most decorators are resting from their busy weekends.

3. Fashion designer

With new emerging fashion trends and styles in this era, a fashion designer’s role opens itself up to that creative individual who is passionate about the fashion industry.

Just to melt the ice, personal fashion designers get the chance to move with their clients. Fully paid trips and vacations are budgeted for because one needs to be available at all times. It just keeps getting better, working with high-end clients will give free room to grow the reputation of your brand and name at only the cost of your creativity and hard work.

4. Photographer

The end goal is always to be self-employed. Photographers are those creatives that easily hit this target. With flexibility in work schedules, and personalized work visions and goals, photographers will make you want to pursue a career in this field.

What about the money? This field pays highly. If you gain top-notch experience and consistently adjust to new trends in this field, you could make a good fortune.

5. Content Manager

The new blooming field within digital marketing and public relations is content management. These creatives are tasked to ensure that organizations have the right content published on their websites and digital channels among other platforms.

One thing that is good about this creative job, is that it can be done 100% remotely. If there is something people wish for lately, it’s remote work.

6. Event Host (MC/emcee)

The MC’s main job is to start, conduct, pause and end a ceremony. It is not a lie to say that the emcee can either make or break a function. This is because they have the entire event in their hands, therefore, they are key in deciding what will be done, when, and how.

Event hosting jobs lately are occupied by key journalists, comedians, and media personalities, mainly because they require someone who has exposure to the public and the ability to keep people entertained. But that does not mean you cannot chase your dream.

Why would you wish for this job?

  • Flexibility. You move with your office, no permanent physical location.

  • Meet new and important people (Imagine hosting an event that the president graces)

  • Exposure: You are invited to host events in places you have not been to.

  • You do not need to pay for advertisement costs, you advertise yourself as you work.

  • Great pay. The more events, the more exposure and the higher your price gets.

7. Animator

Who does not love animations? Of course, there is more to the world of animation than the Disney movies we get to see. Creatives doing animating jobs are the people behind beautiful TV Ads, product commercials, and games, among other visual media.

The average salary of an animator annually falls at $74,000 according to Glassdoor statistics.  Most animators have turned their jobs into hobbies and if your hobby pays you that much, then I would want to follow suit.

8. Beauty Therapist

The demand to look more flawless is on the rise and not yet going down. As a beauty therapist, you will be in season year in and year out. A creative beauty therapist is tasked to ensure that all the client's beauty needs are met. These include skin care, nail care, and spa therapy among others.

Why be a beauty therapist?

  • Unlimited demand in the market

  • You can make people happy, imagine the look on someone’s face when their skin finally clears.

  • It pays back well. Ladies are willing to invest in their beauty.

9. Make-up artist.

The time I discovered that all the burns and cuts I see in movies are just fictitious works by make-up artists, I felt cheated. All my life I was comfortable knowing that they probably use people with injuries to act in movies. But well, what a great skill of art! Let us put aside the flawlessly made-up brides at weddings, there is something about the kind of make-up that makes you believe that someone’s neck is cut off.

Kenny, a film make-up artist, swears by this job. He says he can have a month of resting and two full months of work both day and night to get a full movie done. “I would never complain because I do what I love and I'm always looking forward to it.”  He says the travel bit of the job is the most exciting.

If you wanted to see your name on the cast of a movie list, this would be a great job for you.

10. Event Planner.

“Oh, I love my job!” says Meta, a professional event planner at Gate Events. Imagine being paid to have fun. The event planning industry can be hectic but the good part outweighs it all. Event planners are those creatives who can plan both a concert and a political debate at the same time.

Give an event planner a theme for your function, and watch them run off with it to give you a beautiful reality.

Have you wanted to see all your favourite musicians, politicians, and influential people? This is a creative job that will make you get in contact with people you always see on TV.

To wind up, if you are creative and thinking of switching a career to one of the mentioned jobs for creatives, then you can. Remember, nothing comes easy, competition is everywhere, but the only difference is the effort and love you have towards what you do.
