No matter how low you fall, there is always an opportunity for you to get back up if you keep trying.

If you are a ShondaLand die-hard, then you must be devastated by the ending of Scandal. On Thursday, the season finale of Scandal, a popular series by Shonda Rhimes, screened. To imagine that we will never watch a new episode with Olivia Pope is devastating.

P.S: There are no spoilers here.

Scandal was not just a series, it was seven seasons of a life of a career-driven woman, and we feel that there is a lot that we can learn from Olivia Pope’s story. Even as we mourn the end of a great story, we choose to focus on what we can learn from it.

Be Deliberate

Olivia Pope knew what she wanted; to end up in The White House, and everything she did was to that end. What do you want? Where do you want to be? Knowing where you want to go plays a big part in every decision you make on your career journey. The best part is that you don’t have to do it alone.

Hard Work

If there is one thing that Olivia Pope did, it was working hard. When Olivia Pope and Associates (OPA), and later Quinn Perkins and Associates had a client, they did not rest until they fixed the scandal/situation that their client was in. They took their work seriously, and it is this ethic that ensured they had a continuous client list.

Networking

A lot of the success that OPA enjoyed was because of the networks that Olivia Pope had fostered in her former years working at The White House. Wherever you are currently, you have an opportunity to leverage that to take you to the next level.

Second Chances

After Olivia Pope was fired from the position of Chief of Staff at The White House, we thought that that was the end of her career and that nothing good would ever happen to her. She, however, went on to give guest lectures at universities. It was while she was there that Annalise Keating (from How to Get Away From Murder) found her, and asked for her help to take a class action case to The Supreme Court. They went on to win that case. No matter how low you fall, there is always an opportunity for you to get back up if you keep trying.

I bet you thought all the time you spent watching Scandal was only for fun. I guess you were wrong.
