Education & Experience Required

  • University degree in international relations, social sciences, law or another related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience with a humanitarian organization and/or NGO/CSO.
  • Good knowledge of the political, security, and socio-cultural dynamics of the North East of Nigeria in general.
  • Good communication skills with excellent knowledge of written and oral English and very good reporting skills (writing reports). Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri is required. Knowledge of other local languages will be considered an asset
  • Good understanding of the do no harm principle.
  • Good ability to interview and speak to persons in sensitive situations.
Responsibilities
  • Provides a comprehensive and documented analysis of the humanitarian, political, socioeconomic, and security situation in the AoR relevant to the ICRC and reports any change in the situation.
  • Identifies protection problems through various sources and contributes to the implementation of the Protection of Civilian Population strategy.
  • Documents cases of alleged violations of International Humanitarian Law through discussions with victims, witnesses and other secondary sources (media, UN/INSO incident reports, etc.).
  • Oversees the proper entry and quality of information in the protection database, and proactively analyses the information while ensuring proper follow-up of individual cases.
  • Drafts field trip reports and minutes of meetings (where relevant), ensuring timely follow-up with interlocutors and affected persons on protection issues.
  • Supports other protection activities when necessary, including (but not limited to) debriefings, tracing cases, registration of vulnerable persons (unaccompanied minors, vulnerable separated children) and follow-up of internal referral cases (weapon-wounded casualties).
  • Translates with accuracy, verbally and in writing, Hausa–English (vice versa), Kanuri-English (vice versa), and other local languages if relevant.
  • Complete tasks such as research and analysis, drafting of protection notes as requested by the line manager.
