Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Master Power Systems Ltd (MPSL) is seeking a technically strong Mechanical Procurement Engineer to support MEP projects across Kenya, Uganda and the East African region.
The successful candidate must be able to interpret mechanical drawings, verify BOQs and quantities, evaluate plumbing, firefighting and HVAC systems, prepare estimates, and negotiate with suppliers while ensuring technical compliance, cost efficiency and timely procurement.
Drawing Review & Quantity Verification
- Interpret plumbing, drainage, firefighting, HVAC and external reticulation drawings.
- Verify BOQs and quantity take-offs against approved drawings and specifications.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, BOQs and supplier quotations.
- Validate equipment schedules including pumps, valves, AHUs and FCUs.
Evaluate compliance and suitability of:
- Plumbing, drainage and stormwater systems.
- Firefighting systems including hydrants, sprinklers, wet risers and fire pumps.
- HVAC systems including chillers, AHUs, FCUs, VRF/VRV and ductwork.
- Water storage tanks (GRP, HDPE, RCC and Stainless Steel).
- External reticulation networks.
- Plumbing valves (Gate, Globe, Check, Butterfly, Ball and PRV).
- PPR piping systems (PN10, PN16 & PN20).
- Hot water systems including calorifiers, solar water heating and circulation pumps.
- Prepare technical comparison sheets between approved specifications and vendor submissions.
- Source local and international suppliers for mechanical materials and equipment.
- Issue RFQs and prepare technical/commercial comparison reports.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery timelines and warranties.
- Evaluate supplier capability and certification compliance.
- Prepare Local Purchase Orders (LPOs).
- Prepare material cost estimates for tenders, variations and value engineering proposals.
- Maintain pricing trackers and BOQ vs procurement tracking.
- Recommend technically compliant cost-saving alternatives where applicable.
- Prepare RFAs, material submittals and technical compliance documents.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers and consultants.
- Maintain accurate procurement and approval records.
- Strong knowledge of PPR, UPVC, HDPE and GI piping systems, valves, fittings and accessories.
- Good understanding of plumbing, drainage, firefighting and HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of pumps, tanks, hot water systems and external reticulation.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and extract quantities (Revit/BIM knowledge is an advantage).
- Familiarity with NFPA, BS, IPC and KS/KEBS standards.
- 2–3 years' experience in mechanical procurement or estimation within an MEP or construction environment.
- Experience preparing vendor comparisons, negotiating with suppliers and managing purchase orders.
- Strong MS Excel and MS Word skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills.
- Experience with East African suppliers and import logistics.
- Experience on hospital, institutional or UN projects.
- Knowledge of PVOC and Kenya/Uganda import compliance requirements.
