Senior Lecturer (Computer Science & Mechatronics Engineering) - Full Time

Qualifications & Experience:
1. Doctoral qualification: Must have a PhD from a recognised institution of higher learning in any of the following or closely related disciplines: Computer Science (with research specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Embedded Systems or Robotics), Computer Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Applicants with a PhD in another discipline must demonstrate a substantial research concentration relevant to the position, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Data Engineering, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, Embedded Systems, Control Systems or Industrial Automation.
2. Other academic qualifications: Must have a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines from recognised institutions of higher learning. The candidate must demonstrate a strong Mathematics background in their previous qualifications.
3. Teaching experience: At least three (3) years of university teaching experience at the rank of Lecturer, with demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, assessment and student mentorship. OR should be willing to serve at a lower rank before attaining the requisite teaching experience.
4. Research publications: At least two (2) recent peer-reviewed scholarly publications in disciplines relevant to the position, with evidence of an active research agenda.
5. Practical and technical competence: Demonstrated ability to integrate theory with practical applications through laboratory work, software development, engineering design, prototyping or industry-based projects, as relevant to the applicant’s specialisation.
6. Christian commitment: Must be a committed and a practicing Christian committed to the University’s Christian identity, mission and values.
Key Competencies:

Main duties and responsibilities:
(i) Teaching and Assessment
1. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses assigned by the Head of Department, in accordance with the approved workload and areas of expertise.
2. Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory sessions and practical activities that develop students’ knowledge, technical competence and problem-solving skills.
3. Set, administer, mark and moderate assessments and examinations; provide timely feedback; and submit results within University deadlines.
4. Integrate e-learning, blended learning and appropriate digital tools into teaching and assessment.
5. Maintain accurate records of teaching activities, student attendance, assessment and academic progress.
(ii) Research, Innovation and Supervision
6. Conduct and publish high-quality research in relevant areas of Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering and related disciplines.
7. Supervise undergraduate projects and postgraduate research, including Master’s dissertations and doctoral research, in accordance with University eligibility requirements.
8. Support students in developing research proposals, applying appropriate methods, observing research ethics, and producing scholarly publications and practical outputs.
9. Develop research funding proposals and participate in collaborative research, innovation and consultancy projects.
10. Promote interdisciplinary projects that connect computing with engineering applications, including intelligent systems, robotics, embedded systems and automation, as appropriate to the area of specialization.
(iii) Curriculum Development and Academic Leadership
11. Contribute to the design, review and implementation of relevant, high-quality, competence-based curricula.
12. Develop and update course outlines, learning materials, laboratory activities and assessment strategies to reflect advances in the discipline and industry needs.
13. Develop specialist short courses and professional training in relevant areas.
14. Mentor junior academic staff and contribute to improvements in teaching, research and supervision.
15. Support programme review, accreditation activities and academic quality assurance.
(iv) Practical Training and External Engagement
16. Work with technical staff to strengthen laboratory learning, effective use of equipment and safe practical training.
17. Support student projects, practical bootcamps, exhibitions, competitions and other activities that demonstrate applied competence.
18. Build partnerships with industry, academic institutions and professional bodies to support research, internships, practical training and knowledge exchange.
19. Contribute to outreach, career guidance, programme publicity and student recruitment activities.
20. Represent the Department and University in relevant scholarly and professional forums.
