Description
- Report to the relevant Chargehand and Maintenance Manager.
- Uphold the DIO values and BATUK charter.
- Conduct carpentry construction work, remodelling work with good workmanship, and producing specific method statements and risk assessments.
- Use both power and manual tools.
- Advise senior colleagues on alternative techniques or practices that would give better value for money, if required.
- Basic set up and low-level maintenance and operate woodworking machines, such as lathes, drill presses, sanders, shapers, and planning machines, to perform woodworking operations.
- Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hanging doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows.
- Read and understand blueprints, technical drawings & utilise appropriate maths skills.
- Reads and understand work order or receive instructions from Chargehand.
- Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to work above ground level.
- Maintains all equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Inspects, maintains, and correctly wears items of PPE specific to the task.
- Always keep work site/workshop tidy especially at the end of each shift or working day.
- Responsible for the use of materials and tools issued for the task including the safe storage and security, protection from the elements and being accountable for any unused materials, to be returned and signed back to stores.
- Understands and carries out all requirements under Health and Safety for the task including reading, understanding and complying with the risk assessments and site safety orders.
- Comply with relevant Regulations and Codes of Practice.
- Undertakes other tasks as directed by Line Management.
- Essential:
Minimum of Trade test 1 in carpentry and joinery or woodwork course, with three years working experience.
Kenya Certificate of Secondary education (KCSE).
Be able to perform carpentry work on new projects or refurbishments, in residential buildings, workshops, stores or outdoors.
Working with power or manual tools within a specific area, each with specific components and discrete tasks.
Be aware of occupational hazards and utilise standard safety practices.
Be able to risk assess and mitigate as low as required when performing heavy manual works or working in unfavourable conditions.
Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

Grade 1 Carpentry and Joinery qualification minimum.
Have a valid driving licence.
- Essential:
Hold valid Kenya driving License (Class B, C1 & C)
Able to efficiently use motorised and hand tools and equipment used in maintaining, repairing facilities particular to work area.
Understand occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures.
