Role Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems supporting telecommunications infrastructure. This includes power systems, backup solutions, energy optimization initiatives, and ensuring maximum network uptime across multiple sites. The role requires strong technical expertise in power infrastructure, project management, and contractor supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure supporting telecommunications sites.

  • Manage power systems including grid connections, diesel generators, hybrid power solutions, batteries, rectifiers, UPS systems, transformers, and distribution panels.

  • Ensure optimal power availability and reliability across telecom infrastructure through preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.

  • Plan and oversee electrical infrastructure upgrades, modernization projects, and energy efficiency initiatives.

  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments for new deployments and existing infrastructure improvements.

  • Supervise contractors and vendors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Monitor electrical performance, identify system faults, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.

  • Ensure compliance with electrical engineering standards, health and safety regulations, environmental requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, project updates, and maintenance records.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, construction, procurement, and project management to support business objectives.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy optimization, operational efficiency, and cost reduction.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering from a recognized institution.

  • Professional registration with a recognized engineering body is an added advantage.

  • Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is desirable.

Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in electrical engineering, with substantial experience in critical infrastructure environments.

  • Proven experience managing electrical systems within telecommunications, power, energy, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Experience delivering electrical construction, commissioning, and maintenance projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and contractors simultaneously.

Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC power systems and electrical distribution networks.

  • Hands-on experience with diesel generators, battery technologies, rectifiers, UPS systems, transformers, switchgear, and renewable energy solutions.

  • Understanding of hybrid energy systems, solar power integration, and energy management technologies is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, or other electrical engineering design and analysis software.

  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance methodologies and asset lifecycle management.

  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
