  • Working at the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack, the candidate [or Advocacy Officer] will conduct advocacy related to promoting the endorsement and implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration and the Guidelines for Protecting Schools and Universities from Military Use during Armed Conflict.
  • The GCPEA Advocacy Officer is responsible for developing and delivering advocacy messages, implementing GCPEA’s advocacy strategy, and producing high-quality products such as letters to permanent missions and briefing papers. He/she supports GCPEA’s advocacy efforts to influence UN and intergovernmental agendas related to the Safe School Declaration and implementation activities at international, regional and national levels.

Experience and Skills:

  • Relevant experience of advocacy work in the humanitarian, human rights or development fields.
  • Good understanding of international humanitarian and human rights law, including the right to education.
  • Good knowledge of the advocacy / policy environment of the UN, including UN human rights mechanisms;
  • Experience in organising and conducting international events, including coordination with different stakeholders and managing logistics.
  • Ability to write and deliver oral presentations in a clear, concise style and for various audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
  • A proven ability to work in a professional manner in a multilingual, multifaceted, international setting with limited supervision and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility coupled with teamwork skills.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) required, with a working knowledge of French, Spanish, and/or Arabic desirable.

  • Computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to update websites and use social media.
