Description
Qualifications
  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Board certification in Pathology and valid medical license to practice in Nigeria.
  • Postgraduate training in pathology or equivalent (desirable).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ post fellowship experience in diagnostic pathology with significant subspecialty exposure.
  • Expertise in histopathology, cytopathology, and molecular pathology.
  • Proven knowledge of laboratory quality management systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in advanced diagnostic technologies and laboratory information systems.


Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Diagnostic Services

  • Provide expert pathology services across histopathology, cytopathology, and molecular pathology.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and comprehensive diagnostic reporting to support patient care.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, physicians, and other specialists to support multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Establish and maintain best practices and standard operating procedures in pathology.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Implement and monitor laboratory quality management systems in line with national and international accreditation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, ethical guidelines, and hospital protocols.
  • Oversee internal and external quality control programs, conducting regular audits of diagnostic outcomes.

Innovation, Research and Development

  • Lead the development and adoption of new diagnostic protocols, technologies, and methodologies to enhance pathology services.
  • Participate in and encourage departmental research and publications, particularly in diagnostic innovations.
  • Contribute to AMCE’s knowledge-sharing and continuous learning culture through research, teaching, and training initiatives.

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Provide strategic direction for the Diagnostics Services department in alignment with AMCE’s mission and vision.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior pathologists and laboratory staff, fostering professional growth.
  • Conduct performance reviews and identify development opportunities for team members.
  • Ensure effective workload distribution and resource allocation to achieve departmental goals.

Strategic and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Collaborate with AMCE leadership in procuring advanced diagnostic equipment and technologies.
  • Strengthen partnerships with external laboratories to provide seamless diagnostic support when required.
  • Promote a patient-centered approach and uphold AMCE’s values of excellence, compassion, and integrity.
