Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Pathology or any other related discipline.

· Master’s degree in a related field is an added advantage.

· Certification as a Technologist or Specialist in Microbiology or Medical Laboratory Science is an added advantage.

· Familiarity with transplant-related complications (e.g., rejection, graft-versus-host disease).

Experience

· 1–4 years of experience in a transplant or immunology-focused laboratory.

· Hands-on expertise in molecular HLA typing, flow cytometry, and advanced immunological techniques.

· Experience with next-generation sequencing is desirable.

· In-depth knowledge of immunology, immunogenetics, and histocompatibility.


Responsibilities

Donor–Recipient Compatibility Testing

· Conduct comprehensive compatibility testing to evaluate donor–recipient matches.

· Analyse results to identify potential risks of rejection or adverse immune responses.

· Prepare detailed reports and provide scientific consultation to transplant physicians.

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure compliance with international and national regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO, CLSI).

· Participate in internal and external proficiency testing programs to validate accuracy.

· Maintain complete and accurate documentation of quality assurance processes, incidents, and corrective actions.

Data Management and Reporting

· Record and manage test results using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

· Prepare concise and timely reports to support clinical decision-making.

· Assist with data analysis for quality improvement and research projects.

Training and Education

· Mentor and train junior staff, interns, and residents in transplant laboratory techniques.

· Deliver continuing education sessions to ensure up-to-date knowledge of emerging methods and standards.

Collaboration and Communication

· Work closely with transplant coordinators, surgeons, immunologists, and other multidisciplinary team members.

· Participate in case reviews, providing laboratory insights that inform clinical decisions.

· Liaise with external organizations, including organ procurement agencies, to support transplant processes.
