Description

The Regional Coordinator (RC) is responsible for overseeing and guiding Area Coordinators to ensure the efficient execution of tree planting, farmer capacity building, and plantation management. The RC plays a pivotal role in aligning field operations with company targets, providing strategic direction, addressing challenges, and ensuring the achievement of planting goals within the assigned region.



Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight and Coordination:
    • Provide leadership and direction to the assigned team to achieve regional planting targets and operational goals.

    • Develop and oversee regional work plans in line with annual targets and company objectives.

    • Facilitate smooth communication between Area Coordinators, Branch Coordinators, and the head office.


Data Management
    • Ensure the proper utilization of monitoring and reporting tools, enabling real-time tracking of nursery and field operations to support efficiency and accountability.

    • Facilitate regular data review sessions with Area Coordinators and Branch Coordinators to assess performance, identify gaps, and align on corrective actions.

    • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making across the region by encouraging teams to use data insights to guide planning, resource allocation, and operational improvements.

    • Validate the accuracy and completeness of data submitted from the field, ensuring consistency with set standards and operational targets.

    • Collaborate with the MEL team to interpret trends and integrate key findings into regional strategy and planning cycles.


Performance Monitoring:
    • Track the performance of Area Coordinators and their teams against planting and survival targets.

    • Conduct regular field visits to assess progress and address operational challenges.

    • Compile and analyze regional reports, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

    • Conduct monthly performance evaluations for all team members, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.


Resource Allocation and Management:
    • Coordinate the distribution of resources (e.g., seeds, seedlings, tools, and equipment) to ensure timely planting.

    • Monitor resource utilization across the region to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.


Capacity Building and Training:
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to Area Coordinators to enhance their leadership and operational effectiveness.

    • Facilitate the dissemination of best practices and technical knowledge across teams. Risk Management and Problem Solving:

    • Identify operational risks (e.g., resource shortages, compliance issues, weather impacts) and implement mitigation strategies.

    • Address and resolve conflicts or issues within the field teams, escalating to senior management as necessary.


Compliance Enforcement
    • Ensure all team members adhere to company standards, policies, and operational procedures.

    • Conduct regular field audits to assess compliance with SOPs and field protocols.

    • Address non-compliance issues promptly and enforce corrective actions.

    • Provide ongoing training and support to strengthen staff understanding of compliance requirements.

    • Promote a culture of accountability and integrity across the region


Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Represent the organization in regional meetings and liaise with local authorities and partners to foster collaboration.

    • Ensure effective communication with farmers and community leaders to support planting activities and address grievances


Recruitment, Training, and Onboarding:


    • Participate in the recruitment process for nursery staff and interns, ensuring alignment with Kijani’s values and operational needs.

    • Oversee the training and onboarding of new staff, ensuring they are adequately prepared to perform their roles.


Reporting and Documentation:
    • Submit comprehensive monthly reports summarizing planting progress, challenges, and resource needs.

    • Maintain accurate records of planted areas, survival rates, and resource usage for accountability.


Work Conditions:
    • Frequent travel to field locations.

    • Periodic extended stays in rural areas to monitor operations.

    • Motorcycle riding proficiency with a valid license and experience working in rural areas.


Skills, Competencies & Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Management, or a related field.

    • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in agroforestry or community-based initiatives.

    • Proven experience in a similar position, supervisory or managerial role, preferably in agroforestry or related fields.

    • In-depth knowledge of sustainable forestry practices and nursery management.

    • Ability to work in remote locations and travel extensively within the area.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong leadership team management skills and interpersonal abilities.

    • Analytical skills for planning and problem-solving.

    • Proficiency in digital reporting tools and applications.

    • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.

    • Strong organisational and strategic planning skills.
