Database Administrator
Duty Station: Head Office
Reports to: Applications and Support Manager
Summary
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for maintenance, administration of FINCA Uganda’s Database infrastructure including but not limited to Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL and other corporate databases.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Installing, configuring, maintaining and monitoring the corporate databases.
- Ensuring adequate security safeguards are in place to control access to all databases
- Ensuring the integrity of database files through daily monitoring of database backups, logs, journals and transaction statistics
- Overseeing the proper distribution and controlled replication of data across secondary and disaster recovery databases
- Allocating disk space for new data tables and monitoring space utilization for existing data tables
- Making adjustments to the table sizes and allocations to ensure efficient use of resources and to optimize performance.
- Implementing database backup and recovery plans and performing database recoveries as per the disaster plan recoveries.
- Testing database backups in line with the standard operating procedures
- Developing strategies to optimize database performance and planning for capacity growth requirements
- Preparing periodic reports on the status of all database systems including performance data, economics data and database usage
- Deploying and maintaining Data Reporting Systems Environment and other Data ETL tools
- Providing assigned data & technical support of core banking solutions
Competencies
a) Strong knowledge of Oracle/MS SQL/databases b) Knowledge of programming in SQL, PL/SQL c) Knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems d) Excellent communication and management skills with ability to manage work of subordinate employees. e) Good leadership and team building skills f) Professionalism
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or Software Engineering or Information Systems or any other relevant field.
- Oracle/MS SQL Certification is preferred
- 4-5 years and above experience as Database Administrator in a reputable organization
