The PHS Field Epidemiology Training Program Advisor will serve in the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) within the Global Health Center (GHC) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Kampala, Uganda. Specifically, the job holder will support the Uganda Ministry of Health (MOH) to implement its Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) in Uganda and other workforce development and health systems strengthening programs. 
This position will also support Uganda’s nascent Global Laboratory Leadership Program (GLLP) initiated in 2023 that interfaces and collaborates directly with the FETP. Strong workforce capacity-building programs are a vital part of Global Health Security (GHS) agenda, which will play an important role on the advancement and development of a National Public Health Institute (NPHI) and a functioning Emergency Operations Center (EOC).


Requirements

  • The applicants for the United States US Embassy PHS Field Epidemiology Training Program Advisor job opportunity should hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Health Science, Medicine, Epidemiology or host country equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of five years of mid-to-senior level medical, epidemiology and public health experience in developing epidemiology competency- based training curriculum.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in teaching and mentorship of field epidemiology training, disease outbreak investigation and response as well as policy and planning development.
  • Experience in an international setting is also required.
  • Knowledge and expertise in applied and field epidemiology and technology, public health surveillance and networks, in training methodologies and training evaluation, in establishing quality management systems in laboratory, and in Uganda Ministry of Health and Public Health Laboratory services.
  • Advanced written communication This includes ability to write and edit clear, concise documents, reports, technical papers, scientific articles, and contracts, as well as instructional materials, expertise in applied and theoretical training and adult education methodologies, highly developed teaching skills, advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite programs/applications including Word, Excel.
  • Proficiency in Epi-Info, highly advanced data skills, including data analysis, evaluation, and presentation in written and oral form.
  • Ability to train others in data description and analysis, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively as a team member in an established culturally diverse environment, ability to establish effective relationships with host government officials. This may be tested.
  • Language: Fluent English; written/spoken, including the ability to translate. This may be tested.
