The purpose of the position is day to design, implement and
maintain Fiber Optics, Terminal Equipment (PDH, SDH & DWDM) and auxiliary
power supply systems for communication, protection and control systems to
attain 99% network availability in accordance with relevant standards both
local and international.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunication
Engineering with at least 7-10 years of experience in power network
communication systems.
• Must be a registered or registrable with ERB
• Must have specialised training in the following fields;
Industrial networking based on IP/TCP protocols
PDH, SDH, DWDM access and carrier equipment
Optical fibre
Microwave radio systems
Auxiliary power supply systems
• Strong knowledge in Fibre Optic installations and maintenance, Fibre
Optical Terminal Systems (PDH, SDH & DWDM), Auxiliary Power supply
Systems (AC & DC Power supplies)
• Ability to perform professional technical diagnosis, identity relevant
problems, and provide and defend suitable solutions.
• Excellent planning and organisation skills.
• Willingness and ability to work effectively for long hours without
supervision.
• Highly motivated, innovative, proactive and committed team player.
• Must possess a valid driving permit
Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain 48VDC, 110VDC batteries and chargers,
standby generators infrastructure that power telephony, SCADA and
power protection systems in accordance with appropriate International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard guidelines and the company’s
strategic plans. Also, the supervision, compilation and continual update
of auxiliary power supply inventory, load distribution in accordance with
International telecommunication union standards.
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
• Provide technical guidance in the management of optical fibre terminal
network infrastructure in terms of provisioning, configuration, operation
and reporting in line with user requirements, ICT policy and design
documentation.
• Develop maintenance schedules and monitor their implementation in
line with the manufacturer’s recommendations and maintenance policy.
Also, to develop and monitor implementation of an annual sub-section
budget in line with financial regulations and activity plan.
• Initiate and monitor implementation and compliance of safety control
measures to self, staff and equipment in accordance with SHE policy and
manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Monitor and document the performance of the fibre network using the
remote fibre test system to identify any degradation or outage and
initiate their resolution in the shortest time to achieve 99% annual optical
fibre network availability in accordance with SLA agreements with
stakeholders. Also, provide technical support to optical fibre clients,
coordinating shared sites access requests, monitoring functionality and
availability of equipment space, power, air conditioning and security
services in accordance with SLA agreements with clients
• Provide technical expertise in the procurement process of
communication system works, consultancy, services and goods in terms
of preparation of specifications, evaluation and contract management
in accordance with PPDA, World bank, IDB, ADB, etc. procurement
guidelines.
