Senior Substation Maintenance Engineer

To oversee and execute the maintenance, repair, and optimization of electrical substations. The Senior Substation Maintenance Engineer ensures the safety, reliability, and performance of substation equipment by leading maintenance activities, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

The Senior Substation Maintenance Engineer ensures the efficient operation of electrical substations, directly contributing to the stability and reliability of the electricity supply network. Additionally, the role ensures the optimal performance and reliability of distribution transformers, contributing directly to the stability of the electrical grid and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Academic Qualifications

•A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering.

•Certifications in substation maintenance and electrical safety are an advantage.

•Member of UIPE, ERB

Experience

•Minimum of 5 years of experience in Primary substation maintenance operations.

•Strong hands-on experience with substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, Busbars and protective relays.

1.Distribution Transformer Workshop Management

o Lead and manage the maintenance and repair activities of the Distribution Transformer Workshop.

o Supervise a team of distribution transformer maintenance engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management.

o Prepare detailed reports on transformer condition, maintenance schedules, and any issues encountered, ensuring that records are up to date and accessible. Provide feedback on maintenance programs and suggest areas for improvement or innovation.

2.Substation Maintenance Management

o Supervise and manage the maintenance and repair activities of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and protection systems.

o Develop, implement, and manage preventive and corrective maintenance plans.

3.Troubleshooting and Fault Resolution

o Lead the troubleshooting of electrical issues and failures in substation systems, performing detailed diagnostic tests and applying corrective actions.

o Ensure prompt resolution of faults to minimize downtime and service interruptions.

4. Team Leadership and Supervision

o Supervise a team of substation maintenance engineers and technicians, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards.

o Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

5. Safety and Regulatory Compliance

o Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.

o Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with electrical safety protocols.

6. Performance Monitoring and Optimization

o Monitor the performance of substation equipment and systems, conducting regular inspections and implementing upgrades or improvements where necessary.

o Identify opportunities for performance enhancement and implement best practices to increase reliability.

7. Documentation and Reporting

o Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including repair reports, inspection logs, and performance data.

o Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, system performance, and completed work.

8. Project Management

o Oversee the execution of substation upgrade projects and maintenance initiatives, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgets.

o Coordinate with other teams (e.g., planning, operations, and engineering) to ensure smooth execution of substation projects.

9. Training and Development

o Assist in developing training programs for new substation technologies, tools, and best practices.

o Continuously improve the team’s technical capabilities and ensure they are kept up to date on industry developments and standards.
