We have all heard about how robots will one day take over the world and replace us. We have all watched a movie or two on how this will happen, for example, Transformers and I-Robot. It's time to officially let you know that it has begun through the use of AI.

Even if you don't know what AI stands for, you must have heard the term at least once. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence and has transformed businesses in more ways than one, including client acquisition and retention, predictive and reactive selling and improved productivity. Before we figure out which jobs AI will replace, first, let's understand what AI is.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is a system that simulates human intellect to machines and makes them perform actions like humans or even better than humans in some cases. Currently, there are four types of artificial intelligence, namely:

  1. Limited Memory - It stores existing data and creates better output using the data. An excellent example is the TESLA self-driving cars that analyze the speed and direction of vehicles and replicate that.

  2. Reactive machines - They perform basic operations but cannot make memories or decisions using past experiences. Deep Blue by IBM is an excellent example of a reactive device.

  3. Self-aware AI - The good thing about this AI is that it is yet to be actualized, but it is becoming a reality. Self-aware artificial intelligence is independent enough to make its own decisions. Therefore, it will be more intelligent than humans. I know what you are thinking, "YIKES!"

  4. Theory of mind - Artificial intelligence in this category is scarier than the others because it can connect with the human mind and interpret our thoughts. This connection will make the AI have thoughts and emotions of its own.

5 jobs AI will replace in the future

Technology has taken us by storm and will eventually replace some jobs. This new beginning is both exciting and worrying for many employees. Even though embracing AI will be a challenge initially, it will allow other sectors to expand their potential. Based on the AI currently in operation, here are 5 jobs AI will replace and perform in the future:

Accountants and bookkeepers (98% Likelihood)

In the early stages of AI development, most companies relied on human labour for their bookkeeping practices rather than software. Additionally, software used to be. However, this has changed with time. Companies have realized that they are more efficient and affordable than paying an employee's salary. This software includes Quickbooks, FreshBooks, and Microsoft Office, among others. The software collects, stores, and analyzes data without making any errors.

Customer service representatives and telemarketers (99% Likelihood)

You have probably received a robocall on behalf of various services and products, which was a form of AI. This is one of the first jobs AI will replace because it doesn't need high levels of emotional or social intelligence. They are making it easier for companies to use software that performs tasks such as using chatbots with automated responses to FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions).

Proofreaders (84% Likelihood)

In-house proofreaders are currently nonexistent. Proofreading software has kickstarted significant developments over the last decade, making this role absent. Writing software comes with self-checking writing applications and tools that perform the tasks of proofreaders, such as:

  • Detecting plagiarism

  • Correcting sentence structures

  • Checking grammatical errors

Some of these applications include Google Docs and Microsoft Word.

Receptionists (96% Likelihood)

Have you ever heard an automated voice message when booking a hotel room or resetting a table? Well, that automated voice message is AI software. Alternatively, if you have interacted with an online scheduling system that allows you to book by talking to a representative on the phone or by email, then you have experienced the power of AI.

Market research analysts (61% Likelihood)

Market research analysts assist with developing products, content, and messaging. However, companies have used online surveys over the years to compile the information they need more efficiently and faster. For example, GrowthBot is a marketing chatbot that shares digital marketing trends. It does market research on nearby competitors and businesses using a simple Slack command.

Conclusion... is your job safe?

We have created the above list based on predictions and estimations from tech-savvy institutions such as Oxford University. However, it would be best to remember that human creativity has no limits.
