More often when we sign a work contract, it feels like a better for worse kind of situation. But as it turns out, this is not your typical relationship. Employees rarely get the opportunity to be brutally honest with their bosses.

So we asked members of our community to write anonymous letters to their bosses to get things off their chests. Here goes the good, the bad and the…

#1: The one who's unbothered

Dear boss,

I’m a traditional girl who still believes in the fairytale of the phoenix. In fact, my whole life is grounded on the conviction of giving hundreds of chances, but only to the deserving. Your company has unfortunately eaten through my patience. The company assistant manager who happens to be your husband has made it very difficult to work seamlessly in the office.

Now I know what you’re thinking; it’s young women like me, with malnourished bank accounts, that are running after your tall, piece of headache to get monetary gains. The truth is the many days that you work remotely enable your dear husband to sexually harass me by making snide sexual comments and sending unwelcomed messages. This behavior is disgusting.

#2: The one who walked away.

Dear boss,

Not to take anything away from you, but I wish you led by example and created a better office culture. I wish you paid more attention to the growing pains of your subordinates and fought harder for them to succeed. I wish you showed more appreciation and acted with empathy when it came down to conflict resolution. I wish you had taken the opportunity to lead from the front which would have entailed pulling your own weight and not abandoning the ship in the name of delegating all the responsibilities to a single individual whilst still demanding results when there was already so much idle resource. Either way, thank you for the experience. It has made me a well-rounded individual. But then again, you cannot pour from an empty cup!

#3: The one I need a promotion from

Dear boss,

I hope you and pray you keep me in your company after my internship ends. I know you may be skeptical to give me this position since I’m a fresh graduate but rest assured, I intend to give it my ultimate best and ensure everything goes well. I know I'm not experienced enough but what I do have is the openness to learn and always improve myself. Therefore, if you trust me with this job, I promise to not let you down.

#4: The one who is cold, distant, and aloof

Dear boss,

I do appreciate that you have a lot on your plate. However, at the end of the day, we are all here to achieve our goals. I do need your feedback whenever I reach out to you. A simple acknowledgment is polite even if you do not have a solution just yet. When you ignore my messages, it communicates to me your lack of concern over issues that fall squarely on your docket. You also come across as passive-aggressive. This leads me to question a lot of things: did I offend you when I reached out? Do you have something personal against me? Is my work important? I have nothing personal against you as a person, since our interactions are quite cordial, it is this particular behavior that I feel uncomfortable with. May I challenge you to be more outgoing? Smile more, say a few jokes even if they are lame, and just be easy. It reduces tension and gives you that humane face.

#5: The one with the endless laughter

Dear boss,

For a lack of a better title, I will address you as the one who sets the bar high, with a lot of expectations and targets that need to be met. Just like the Dexter's Laboratory, you being Deedee, I just hope I will have done my work well to not have to restart it all over again :D. All in all, your leadership is pretty amazing, keep steering the ship into greatness.

#6: The one who's a hard nut to crack

Dear boss,

I have always liked unconventional workplaces. They give you space to breathe, play around with your creativity, and give more room to explore your potential. Hats off to you for trying to be flexible. You're my shujaa : )
