Ten years ago, 17 September 2015 to be exact, we launched Fuzu to the world with one big dream: to give every talent out there — no matter their background — a fair shot at building the career they deserve. Larry Madowo (back then Nation Media's anchor, now the international superstar at CNN) helped us share the news with the world. We went to the malls, buss tops and churches to spread the word, and people came in the thousands.
For us as first-time founders, building something from scratch was both exhilarating and daunting. We didn’t want to launch just another job board. We wanted to create a platform that truly understood who our users were, one that could guide each person with personalized recommendations, from jobs to learning opportunities to inspirational content. A platform that could help people achieve their career related dreams.
Why Fuzu Exists
Whether we like it or not, work is such a central part of our lives — it shapes who we are, how we spend our days, and the dreams we chase. Finding meaningful work isn’t just about a paycheck; it’s about one's purpose, growth, and ultimately dignity.
But not all of us are dealt the same cards. Some are born into opportunity, others into hardship. Our dream was to level the playing field—to build a platform that improves everyone’s chances of success. That’s why we chose the name Fuzu, which means to succeed, to overcome challenges and to master a competence.
That spirit of enabling success is what has carried us through the past 10 years—and what drives us into the future.
What We’ve Achieved Together
Over the last decade, Fuzu has grown into one of the largest talent communities in Africa and beyond. Together we have built:
- A community of 3 million+ professionals
- Over 500,000 jobs posted
- 11 million applications submitted
- Nearly 20 million people who have used Fuzu to advance their careers
- 700,000 personality tests completed
These numbers are incredible, but behind them are real stories—people finding their first job, employers discovering the right talent, and careers taking off. That is the true measure of success. The other side of the coin are naturally the countless dreams that did not quite come through due to the tough job market or fierce competition - we need to celebrate these stories as well. Human
What Lies Ahead
We are proud of what we’ve achieved, but we know our work is far from done. Millions of talented people are still struggling to find the right opportunities. Many employers are still relying on outdated ways of hiring, missing out on the potential of smarter, fairer, and more efficient recruitment.
The next decade for Fuzu is about solving these challenges:
- Making hidden opportunities more visible for job seekers
- Helping employers modernize and embrace smarter hiring
- Unlocking pathways for talent to thrive both locally and globally
Because at the heart of every great organization are the people who make it thrive. Smarter hiring builds stronger businesses, which in turn creates more jobs and more opportunities for all.
Thank You
None of this would have been possible without you—our job seekers, employers, and partners. You are the reason Fuzu exists. Your successes are what inspire us every single day.
From all of us at Fuzu, thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to the next 10 years of success—together.
PS: Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing more stories about our journey, the lessons we’ve learned, the challenges we’ve faced, and the exciting road ahead. We will also be coming to you to hear your own Fuzu stories, the good and the bad. Without honest reflection, there is no growth
