Description
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration and current Practising Licence issued by the relevant professional regulatory authority.
- Certification in Basic Life Support will be an added advantage.
- Minimum two years’ experience operating diagnostic X-ray equipment in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic imaging facility.
- Experience in Digital Radiography, Computed Radiography, PACS, and Radiology Information Systems.
- Experience in trauma, emergency, theatre, and mobile radiography will be an added advantage.
Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging Services
- Perform high-quality diagnostic radiographic examinations in line with physicians’ requests and established clinical protocols.
- Operate conventional and digital X-ray equipment safely and efficiently.
- Produce clear, accurate, and diagnostically acceptable images while minimizing repeat examinations.
- Position patients appropriately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Verify patient identity and examination requests before conducting procedures.
Patient Care & Safety
- Prepare patients for radiological examinations by explaining procedures and obtaining cooperation.
- Assess patients for contraindications and special imaging requirements.
- Monitor patients during imaging procedures and respond promptly to emergencies or adverse reactions.
- Provide compassionate, professional, and patient-centred care to all patients, including elderly, pediatric, trauma, and critically ill patients.
Radiation Protection
- Adhere to radiation safety principles, including the ALARA principle.
- Ensure appropriate use of radiation shielding for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Wear and maintain radiation monitoring devices as required.
- Report radiation safety incidents or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate, inspect, and perform routine quality control checks on radiographic equipment.
- Identify equipment faults and coordinate timely repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure imaging equipment is clean, functional, and properly calibrated.
- Maintain accurate equipment maintenance and quality assurance records.
Image Quality & Documentation
- Review images for diagnostic quality before releasing patients.
- Archive images accurately within PACS or other imaging systems.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient imaging records.
- Ensure compliance with medical records and data protection requirements.
Infection Prevention & Quality Compliance
- Observe infection prevention and control procedures during examinations.
- Clean and disinfect imaging equipment after use where applicable.
- Use appropriate PPE and dispose of medical waste safely.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, internal and external quality assurance programmes, and review of radiology procedures and protocols.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated patient care.
- Communicate urgent findings requiring clinical attention in line with departmental protocols.
Resource Management & Continuous Professional Development
- Monitor stock levels of imaging consumables and protective equipment.
- Safeguard imaging equipment and hospital assets.
- Maintain professional registration and participate in CPD programmes.
- Keep updated on developments in diagnostic imaging technology and best practices.
