About the Role

The Project Development Lead is responsible for leading Sanivation’s innovative 3-cities portfolio approach model, and ensuring that three fecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs) reach financial close. This role involves leading strategic relationships with external stakeholders, developing concept notes, funding proposals, and investment memos, and regularly presenting the model to external stakeholders.

About the Role

The Project Development Lead is responsible for leading Sanivation’s innovative 3-cities portfolio approach model, and ensuring that three fecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs) reach financial close. This role involves leading strategic relationships with external stakeholders, developing concept notes, funding proposals, and investment memos, and regularly presenting the model to external stakeholders.


Leadership and Strategy:
  • Lead public-private partnerships with national government, local governments, and development finance institutions.

  • Act as primary point of contact for project development function setting goals and targets for project portfolios.

  • Lead projects through funding and implementation with public support.

  • Manage the success of various stakeholder relationship

Leading Portfolio of FSTP projects reach financial close

  • Lead on FSTP project structuring on Annuity-based Design Build Finance Operate Transfer and/or concession structure.

  • Lead the fundraising process and securing of public investment for portfolio approach by liaising with national & local governments and sharing development business presentations with development finance institutions.

  • Identify, track, and follow up on the progress of funding opportunities through the pipeline

  • Lead on project risk allocation and oversee legal agreements

Lead and oversee the creation of the portfolio concept and corresponding project materials:

  • Lead the development of portfolio project pitch deck, concept notes, financial models, contract frameworks, one-pagers, reports, and articles.

  • Lead the dissemination of the listed materials above in workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences.

  • Seek opportunities for presenting the portfolio concept to potential partners and stakeholders.

  • Keep abreast of the research of similar projects globally and integrate learnings in materials developed.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Initiate and steer relationships with funders; development finance institutions, outcomes funders, bilateral partners, and private investment companies.

  • Guide and manage relationships with the national government intuitions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, finance, project management, or civil engineering
  • Advanced degree in finance, project management environmental science, environmental engineering, or civil engineering
  • 7 years of work experience in project development or project management.
  • 3+ years of experience in developing infrastructure projects.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a resource mobilization role (mobilizing >$1M capital) alongside development finance institutions and the national government of Kenya.
  • 2+ years experience in a management role managing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with public-private partnerships.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and network.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial models.
  • Innovative and possess the ability to lead teams.

Working Relationship:

  • Work internally with the CEO, Business Development team, and Technical team.
  • Work externally with partners and stakeholders such as the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation, Water Sector Trust Fund, Managing Directors of Utilities, African Development Bank, and Dutch Foreign Commission among others.
