The Employment and Skills for Development in Africa (E4D) is a regional Programme implemented in six partner countries in sub-Sahara Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda). Through cooperation with business and public sector partners E4D develops and implements new and innovative partnership approaches and promotes public-private cooperation projects that contribute to sustainable employment. The objective of E4D is to promote employment, raise incomes and improve working conditions.

These partnership projects aim to increase the supply and demand of skilled labour promoting the capacities of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), thus, to create opportunities for vulnerable populations to be integrated into value chains as employees, entrepreneurs, or suppliers.

E4D in Kenya seeks to recruit a Technical Intern to support in the areas listed below.

E4D in Kenya seeks to recruit a Technical Intern to support in the areas listed below.


The Intern is responsible for offering support to E4D Programme team in Kenya in the following core areas

  • The management of partnership projects to ensure achievement of TVET, MSME skills training and Monitoring and Evaluation initiatives

  • The cooperation with the private sector for the creation of sustainable jobs (with a focus on women, youth, and green jobs)

  • The coordination with players from training institutions, private sector, government, development partners and foundations.

  • The knowledge management and communication of the partnership projects.

  • Following up with implementing partners and report on progress report

  • Development of policy recommendation paper for toolbox2

Tasks

The Intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support planning and implementation of skills development and enterprise development activities in consultation with Technical Advisors and Team Leader

  • Support organization and moderation of planning workshops, advise implementation, monitoring, quality management, evaluation, communication, and documentation of agreed activities.

  • Support networking, cooperation, and communication with relevant stakeholders for the E4D program, as well as the organization of internal and external partner meetings.

  • Linking of women led MSMEs to other businesses for access business opportunities.

  • Develop new tools and ideas (e.g., in the areas of ICT/digitalization, green jobs, etc.) to improve the implementation and achievement of results of the
    programme.

  • Participation in relevant internal and external meetings and workshops directly related to the E4D program and assist in documenting them e.g., writing minutes.

  • Networking, cooperation, and communication with relevant stakeholders for the E4D program.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports for the appropriate projects (including annual progress reports to GIZ headquarters)

  • Working with a team of experts the intern will support the development of policy recommendation for projects within E4D programme

  • Organization and administration of events

  • Facilitation communication with the women entrepreneurs

  • Support project partner training logistics and participants validation for payment

  • Preparation of inception activities such as meetings with partners

  • Documentation and dissemination of lessons learnt

  • Undertake other additional (ad-hoc) tasks as requested by the team leader

  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (business administration, Technical Education, Public policy, and administration). Additional qualifications in the area of development cooperation and/or in the areas of TVET, employment promotion, and/or private sector development are an asset.

  • Knowledge of e-waste policy landscape in Kenya

  • Intercultural competence working with local and international teams.

  • Strategic thinking.
