Description
Qualifications and Requirements
- NITA certification/recognition in Welding or a relevant trade qualification is mandatory.
- Certificate in Welding and Fabrication or equivalent technical qualification.
- Demonstrable practical experience in welding and fabrication.
- Must have practical knowledge and experience in Arc Welding.
- Must have practical knowledge and experience in Gas Welding and Gas Cutting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform arc welding on various metal components, machinery, structures, and equipment.
- Carry out gas cutting and gas welding activities safely and accurately.
- Perform arc cutting and other approved metal-cutting operations.
- Prepare, align, fit, and position metal components before welding.
- Carry out repair and maintenance welding on factory machinery, equipment, pipes, frames, supports, and structures.
- Select the appropriate welding method, electrode, gas, tools, and equipment depending on the job requirements.
- Inspect completed welds for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercutting, poor penetration, and improper alignment.
- Grind, clean, and finish welded surfaces to the required standard.
- Operate welding machines, gas-cutting equipment, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely.
- Conduct routine checks on welding equipment, gas cylinders, hoses, regulators, cables, and connections before use.
- Report defective or unsafe equipment immediately to the supervisor.
- Follow all company Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) procedures when carrying out hot-work activities.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, safety boots, protective clothing, and eye and face protection.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure proper storage of welding tools and equipment.
- Work closely with mechanics, technicians, operators, and other maintenance personnel to complete assigned jobs.
- Complete assigned welding and fabrication jobs within the required timelines.
- Perform any other duties related to welding and fabrication as assigned by the supervisor.
