A. Background

The GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) is a German Federal enterprise that provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has over 60 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, agriculture, migration and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is our main commissioning party.

The GIZ Forced Displacement and Migration (FDM) Programme in Kenya currently consists of 7 projects and forms a cooperation and exchange forum for projects of the same target group: refugees and migrants. The Programme closely cooperates with UNHCR.

The project “Supporting the implementation of the Shirika Plan to strengthen the socio-economic inclusion of refugees and host communities in Kenya” aims to strengthen the living conditions, resilience, and socio-economic inclusion of refugees and host communities in Kakuma/Kalobeyei and Dadaab through facilitating the implementation of the Shirika Plan. The project comprises 3 Outputs:

1. The Government capacity strengthening

2. Improved access to modern energy services

3. Skills development and employment promotion.



A. Summary of responsibilities

In your role, you safely and responsibly perform all journeys using company vehicles and carry out technical, manual, and other jobs related to routine maintenance and care of these vehicles. You ensure that all tasks assigned to you are carried out correctly, smoothly, on time, and in compliance with the GIZ security standards.

You are responsible for keeping the information related to your work area and use this data to update on daily basis about the road conditions, current routes, and security relevant information and share it with other drivers and GIZ staff.

You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager as required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive staff/partners/guests/consultants in assigned vehicles.

  • Dealing with bank issues, delivery of correspondence and documents to the premises of programme partners and other organisations.

  • Ensure the orderly operation and cleanliness of assigned vehicles.

  • Keep the vehicle’s logbooks.

  • Prepare the mileage charges for private and/or other programmes vehicle usage.

  • Manage the maintenance of assigned vehicles.

  • Support the preparation, transfer, assembly and dismantling of materials and equipment for different project workshops and/or meetings.

  • Support in procurement of small items for the project and provide support in obtaining bids for procurements.

  • Support with minor repairs and maintenance of programme office facilities in Dadaab.

  • Performed any other tasks required for the project implementation


B. Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognised secondary school leaving qualification

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a driver

  • Defensive driving skills

  • Valid driving licence

  • Basic knowledge of general mechanics

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office and skilled internet user

  • Basic administrative and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs and facility support tasks.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Good knowledge of Garrisa County and the local context

  • Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and Somali.


Assignment period:

Initial contract to start on 15th January 2026 up to 31.12.2026 with possibility of extension
