Context:
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ implements a project Supporting the implementation of the Shirika Plan to strengthen the socio-economic integration of refugees and host communities in Kenya (SISI-RH) in Garissa and Turkana Counties. To that end, the project focuses on activities in employment promotion and business support, provides incentives on usage of clean energy, and provides advisory and capacity building services to partner governmental bodies. The intern shall support the implementation of activities in Kakuma.
A. Tasks & Responsibilities
The intern will be carrying out following tasks and responsibilities:
Supporting the implementation of the project objectives as part of a team
Supporting with logistic and coordination for different events and training activities implemented by the project
Support the Team Leader and Technical Officers in administrative and finance related tasks and processes
Preparation and participation in internal meetings and workshops and assisting with documenting these, e.g. by writing minutes, and photo-documentation
Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.
B. Learning Objectives
During the 6 months period of internship, the candidate will acquire following skills and competencies:
- Enhance his/her knowledge of project management cycle
- Acquire experience in project administration and inner workings of international development agency
- Receive an insight into operational planning and event management
- Improve in drafting reports, articles and other written documents
- Develop a routine in using MS Office applications and MS Teams
- Strengthened his / her presentation and facilitation skills
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, Project Management, etc.)
- Fluent English and Kiswahili language skills both verbal and in writing
- Knowledge of one another language used in Turkana West by either the host or refugee community will be an asset
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office Apps)
- At least 1 year of work or volunteer experience in a comparable position, with references
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Strong interest in project management and administrative career pathways
- Eagerness to learn and gradually assume more responsibility
- Reliability, commitment to deadlines, and very good organizational skills
- Pro-active work ethics
D. Duty Station
The intern will be based in Kakuma. The intern might be expected to take part in business trips within Turkana.
E. Contract Duration
The internship will last for 6 months.
