Qualifications

  • Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Strong understanding of child rights and relevant human rights frameworks.
  • Proven knowledge of child protection principles and practices.
  • Experience with community-based approaches.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in spoken local languages (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri, or other relevant languages).
  • Ability to conduct outreach activities at the community level.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.


Responsibilities
  • Identify, document, and provide support to children and families requiring individualized assistance, including separated and unaccompanied children.
  • Ensure proper documentation of cases involving separated and unaccompanied children in line with standard family tracing and reunification procedures and LABDI’s child safeguarding policy.
  • Refer cases with specific needs to appropriate service providers, ensuring proper follow-up and documentation of all referrals.
  • Immediately escalate urgent or complex cases to the direct supervisor.
  • Conduct regular follow-up and monitoring visits, providing psychological first aid and other necessary support based on the child’s needs.
  • Establish and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms, including the selection, training, and mentorship of community volunteers.
  • Coordinate effectively between community-based volunteers and LABDIto ensure smooth implementation of activities.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions on child protection issues, identification of vulnerable children, and procedures for registering separated and unaccompanied children, including family tracing.
  • Facilitate community consultations on temporary care arrangements for separated and unaccompanied children.
  • Ensure all interventions are culturally sensitive and uphold the dignity of children, youth, and their families.
