Academic Qualification
  • Minimum of HND / B.Sc in relevant discipline

Key Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of oil and gas processing equipment, systems, and technologies is essential. This includes familiarity with upstream, midstream, and downstream processes such as drilling, production, refining, and distribution.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry best practices are critical. This includes knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessments, and emergency response procedures.
  • Proficiency in commissioning methodologies, procedures, and standards specific to the oil and gas industry is necessary. This includes familiarity with codes such as API (American Petroleum Institute) standards and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) codes.
  • Ability to manage complex commissioning projects within the constraints of time, cost, and quality.
  • Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing resources, and mitigating project risks is invaluable.
  • Capacity to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues that arise during the commissioning process. This may involve conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Effective communication with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, is essential. This includes clear written and verbal communication, as well as the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
  • Understanding of QA/QC processes and procedures to ensure that commissioning activities meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Job Duties

  • Supervise the operation of construction equipment, including cranes, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and other heavy machinery, to ensure safe and efficient performance.
  • Develop and implement procedures and protocols for the safe operation of construction equipment, in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate equipment deployment and scheduling to support project activities, ensuring that the right equipment is available at the right time and location.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to assess equipment needs, identify potential challenges, and develop solutions to optimize equipment utilization.
  • Monitor equipment performance and productivity metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and repair activities, including scheduling routine maintenance, coordinating repairs with vendors or in-house maintenance teams, and ensuring that equipment downtime is minimized.
  • Conduct regular inspections of construction equipment to assess condition, identify potential safety hazards, and ensure compliance with maintenance standards.
  • Manage equipment inventory, including tracking equipment usage, monitoring fuel consumption, and maintaining accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide training and guidance to equipment operators and maintenance personnel on safe equipment operation practices, troubleshooting techniques, and maintenance procedures.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to assess equipment needs, evaluate vendor proposals, and negotiate contracts for equipment rental, purchase, or leasing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Extensive experience (typically 7-10 years) in construction equipment operation and maintenance, with a focus on heavy machinery used in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction equipment types, capabilities, and best practices for safe operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards governing the operation of construction equipment, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership abilities, with experience in supervising and mentoring equipment operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other software tools used for equipment tracking, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing equipment-related issues to minimize project delays and disruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Commitment to safety and a demonstrated track record of promoting a culture of safety excellence within construction teams.
