Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, Social Sciences, or other related academic disciplines, and advanced post-graduate qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Membership of an HR professional body with certification is strongly required
- Requires National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or an exemption.
- Requires at least six (6) years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years of similar experience within the INGO sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigeria's labor law.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail and the ability to deal with confidential information discreetly.
Responsibilities
STRATEGY & VISION 20%
- Support the implementation of Mercy Corps HR systems and provide professional advice and coaching to team leaders, staff, and partners on daily HR issues.
- Ensure that controls are put in place to allow for transparent and unbiased HR processes and systems.
- Collaborate with the HR Lead to establish an annual HR work plan, set priorities, monitor work progress, and ensure results are achieved according to schedule and set standards.
RECRUITMENT, SELECTION, AND ONBOARDING 20%
- Ensure the recruitment of national staff adheres to the Mercy Corps recruiting guidelines and is in alignment with Nigerian Labour Law.
- Work with the HR Team to ensure all new national staff receive orientation on Mercy Corps Nigeria systems, policies, and procedures.
- Work with the HR Designee to ensure all new hires receive the MC ID card, email, and all relevant documents upon starting their positions. This includes signing job descriptions, contracts, policies, and procedures, especially the National Staff Handbook and Security Manual.
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT 40%
- Interpret the National Staff Handbook and other HR policies in all MC for Yobe offices, ensuring common understanding and compliance.
- Oversee the management and effectiveness of tracking of annual performance reviews (APRS) submission and capturing of HR country team processing
- Support in finalizing negotiations and preparing documentation, including remuneration packages attached to offers for new hires in close coordination with the country office HR team attached to offers for new hires, and the HR Lead
- Serve as a link between the HR team and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering HR policies and procedures, and helping to resolve work-related problems.
HR COMPLIANCE AND ORGANIZATION POLICY 10%
- Work with the HR Lead to implement transparent and appropriate HR practices, standards/procedures, and policies in accordance with the Mercy Corps Nigeria Employee Handbook.
- Support with the review of relevant standard operating procedures, policies, and manuals as and when required.
- Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, systems, and policies.
EMPLOYEE WELLBEING AND ENGAGEMENT 10%
- Develop and coordinate employee well-being initiatives that promote work-life balance, mental health, and employee resilience.
- Work with the HR Lead to organize wellness and engagement activities such as health campaigns, team building events, stress management sessions, recognition programs, and employee support programs.
- Oversee initiatives that improve employee engagement, promote inclusive workplace practices, and strengthen internal communication to impact Mercy Corps Nigeria culture and branding.
