Your profile:
- Minimum academic qualification of BSc or equivalent in Community Health, Public Health, Environmental Health, or any related discipline with at least 3 years of experience with an INGO in a developing country and/or humanitarian context
- Extensive field team management experience as well as hygiene, security, safety, and resource management experience
- Excellent project management, partnership management, and coordination skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to see the big picture and make sound judgments and decisions
- Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented, and results-oriented, with a genuine interest in learning
- Strong communication skills, including proficiency in the local dialect (preferably Hausa and English), are a core criterion
- Ability to work effectively with local governments, align with MI values and standards, and cope in stressful or hostile environments, including travelling to deep field locations and conducting partner visits
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and monitor all hygiene promotion activities within the assigned area, including needs assessments, context-appropriate strategy design, hygiene messaging development, and oversight of field-level activities
- Collect and analyze relevant data to guide programmatic decisions, ensure timely and high-quality reporting, and build strong relationships with local communities, traditional leaders, government authorities, and implementing partners
- Ensure all activities comply with Malteser International’s standards, policies, and strategic priorities, donor regulations and sectoral best practices coordinating closely coordination with other sector teams (e.g., WASH, Health, and FNS) for an integrated response
- Coordinate and supervise hygiene promotion initiatives at health, school, and community levels, including household visits, community campaigns, focus groups, participatory sessions, and outreach to vulnerable groups. Facilitate regular engagement and capacity-building for hygiene volunteers and community health committees to promote sustainable behavior change and local ownership
- Strengthen the capacity of partners, staff, and volunteers through training, mentoring, and technical support, ensuring effective contributions to improved community hygiene, economic empowerment, and social cohesion
