Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

  • Appropriate professional technical training.

  • Long term commitment. One year work experience especially in a mission setting is an asset

  • Ability to work diligently under pressure and maintain confidentiality

  • Christian of good standing. Mission minded.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to details

  • Ability to communicate in Yoruba is an asset

  • A desire to learn and an attitude of serving.

Responsibilities
Performs pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation.
  • Prepares anesthesia equipment and supplies appropriately for procedures.

  • Performs patient pre-anesthetic assessment prior to each procedure.

  • Does time out with other members of the surgical team.

Formulates a patient-specific plan for anesthesia care in collaboration with senior nurse anesthetist, anesthesiologist, or surgeon.
  • Selects anesthetic technique (general, sedation, regional or local anesthesia).

  • Selects appropriate non-invasive monitoring devices for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status.

  • Selects, obtains, and administer anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.

Implements, monitors, and adjusts patient’s physiologic condition as appropriate for type of anesthesia and specific patient’s needs.
  • Monitors airway, oxygenation pulmonary and circulatory status continuously.

  • Monitors temperature, neuromuscular function, and status.

  • Positioning is continuously monitored and assessed.

  • Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia.

Transfers the responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post-operatively to assure continuity of care and patient safety.
  • Ensure complete documentation of intra-operative medication, counts, surgery etc. before transfer to post-operative care provider.

  • Ensures acute and chronic post-operative pain management modalities are implemented.

  • Selects medications, fluids and ventilator support to facilitate recovery from anesthesia.

Supports operating room procedures.
  • Demonstrates proper identification of patients consistently.

  • Adheres to patient and personnel safety procedures (infection control, fire safety, electric and chemical hazards identified, etc.).
