For a large part, Covid-19 has been an enemy that has caused the deaths of many and crippled the economies of so many countries while companies are declaring workers redundant. However, even with all these challenges there are some advantages that have come with this pandemic. A case of looking at the glass half full. Here are some of them.
1.    Families are together again - People have been forced to spend more time with their families because of the curfews. Parents who were rarely at home because of work are now present at home and actively engaging with their families.
2.    Companies have had to strengthen their virtual networks - With remote work being the order of the day in a bid to prevent exposure to the novel Coronavirus, companies have firmed up their online connections so as to facilitate meetings and work.
3.    Dozens of online courses for free – Reputable schools like Harvard, Stanford and Yale University have started offering some of their courses online for free on websites like Coursera and Udemy. This can be a very prime opportunity to learn and gain a new skill since you have enough time on your hands.
4.    Working without supervision discipline – People have had to develop the grit to work without supervision and be disciplined enough to achieve the required results. As such, internal discipline has been raised to record high levels.
5.    Growth of Home internet – Companies like Faiba, Safaricom and Zuku are making a killing due to the rising demand for home internet so that they can be able to work from home seamlessly.
6.    Invention of masks and ventilators - A new wave of hope was raised when 17 Kenyatta University students invented 10 ventilators to help the Kenyan hospitals ICU. In the same vein, Kenyan Textile companies manufactured millions of masks which are to be distributed among less fortunate Kenyans for free.
7.    Strengthening of government online studies –Since children are all at home and schools closed, the government, through the Ministry of Education has had to develop an online curriculum to ensure that learning goes on at home.
8.    The culture of benevolence has been cemented – COVID-19 has created a sense of community among many people who have decided to cater for the needs of the less fortunate e.g. by provide food. There are good initiatives like Bonga 4 Good by Safaricom which have given Kenyans an opportunity to support people who might not be earning an income now.
9.    Air pollution has reduced – Due to the slow demand of goods, factories have had to close shop and therefore toxic emissions have reduced drastically all over the world. For the first time, some parts of China have been able to see the blue skies due to reduced emissions.
