To succeed in the 21st-century job market, one needs a comprehensive skill set. This has been cited as the groundwork for anyone to take on the challenges of tomorrow. Professionals need to be able to think critically, be innovative and solve problems creatively.

The Yusudi Training Program offers a unique opportunity to learn valuable and in-demand skills. Juliana Odimwa, a graduate of the program, shared with us her experience of the training and how it set her on a path to success. Read on!

My name is Juliana Odimwa, currently a Business Consultant, empowering entrepreneurs to start and set up their businesses. I derive pleasure in planning, coordinating to make projects and events happen.

When I graduated, I looked for jobs but it was in vain. Through networking I was able to work with two international conferences, that is, ICAN 2018 and The Blue Economy, where I got to handle international and local dignitaries such as delegates, ambassadors and businessmen. I then worked as a Program Coordinator at Tapona, empowering women and youth in East Africa.

The world is changing rapidly and so I figured I should add a business skill to my International Relations degree to increase my chances in this competitive world. That’s why I undertook Business Development training with Yusudi’s Training Program.

I liked Yusudi from my first day. Learning was interactive, the trainers were friendly and fun. It was all very practical, for example, we would practice cold calls by calling different organizations in Kenya and make sales pitches. The placement after training definitely stood out for me. They found a way to integrate my skills into an organization where I gained experience.

Yusudi’s Training Program helps you identify your skill gaps, learn about yourself and your strengths. You get a mentor who is able to maximize your strengths and walk with you.

After the training, I was placed at one of Yusudi’s partner companies - Tapona as a Program Coordinator. My transition was quite smooth because I applied most of the skills trained by Yusudi. And when I had challenges, my mentors were a phone call away to help me figure out things.

I aim to acquire more skills by working for various organizations. In the long run, I hope to run my own business, and the Yusudi Training program has prepared me for this.

What most people don’t know about me is that I am a quick learner. That which my hands find to do, I learn and do it well. I might falter in the beginning but once I grasp the concept, I run with it. I remember a time when I joined an organization and I was given tasks to train individuals on poultry and I had limited knowledge on that. After a series of learning the skills practically and theoretically, I successfully transferred the knowledge to many who have used it to grow their enterprises.

I also love culinary arts and I am an entrepreneur in that sector too. I love to share my joy through food and have a part-time business where I supply food to corporate companies.
