Description

GIZ is a federally
owned enterprise operating worldwide, assisting
the German
Government in achieving its international cooperation policy goals through
sustainable development projects.

In Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC) region, GIZ works closely
with governments to advance development in areas such as health, water,
biodiversity, governance, human rights, and economic growth.

Since 2018,
GIZ, with financial support from the German Federal Government, has implemented
the Support to Pandemic Preparedness in the EAC-Region (PanPrep) Project in
collaboration with the EAC Secretariat and Partner States. Specifically,
PanPrep supports the EAC Secretariat’s regional efforts to strengthen pandemic
preparedness and response through rapid expert deployment, One Health and
multisectoral coordination, risk communication and food safety, improved access
to essential medical commodities, and strengthened laboratory, wastewater
surveillance and intensive care capacities. In addition, the project works with
the EAC Secretariat and Partner States; Burundi, Democratic Republic of the
Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Somalia and Uganda to
strengthen institutional, individual and community-level capacities for
effective prevention, detection and response to high-consequence infectious
diseases.

The intern will support the PanPrep team in the implementation and
coordination of activities that contribute to regional pandemic preparedness
and response.

Duty station: Arusha

Fixed term contract

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Supporting day-to-day
    project management, coordination and operations, including meetings, logistics,
    documentation, research and follow-up.

  • Assisting with
    liaison and coordination with the EAC Secretariat, Partner States and
    implementation partners.

  • ·
    Supporting
    monitoring, evaluation, reporting and operational planning of project
    activities.

  • Supporting, under the
    guidance of the project team, activities related to pandemic preparedness and
    response, One Health, medical commodities, laboratory systems and care
    capacity, as required.

  • Supporting risk and
    crisis communication, including research and preparation of communication
    materials, press releases and RCC portal content.

  • Supporting internal
    and external project communications, including social media, website updates,
    articles and event materials.

  • Participate in
    research and monitoring pandemic preparedness and relevant health-policy
    developments in the EAC region.

  • Support the planning,
    implementation and follow-up of relevant meetings, workshops and regional
    events.

  • Assisting in the
    preparation of briefs, one-pagers, presentations, background documents and
    analyses.


  • Providing other relevant technical, administrative and operational
    support as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s
    or postgraduate degree in Health and Life Sciences, Social or Political Sciences,
    International Relations
    , or a related discipline.

  • Basic
    knowledge or initial experience in project management, EAC health integration, regional
    cooperation, or development cooperation
    .


  • Strong
    English
    communication and writing skills
    .

  • Excellent
    intercultural
    competence and teamwork skills
    , with the ability to work
    effectively in diverse environments.

  • Strong
    organisational,
    coordination, and analytical skills
    .

  • Knowledge
    of French
    and Swahili
    is an advantage.

  • Proficiency
    in Microsoft
    Office applications
    , particularly Word, Excel, and
    PowerPoint
    .
