Description
Main duties:
- Painting interior and exterior surfaces using varnishes, paint, wall fabrics, stains or sealers.
- Mix and match paint, stain and other finishes to job specifications.
- Signwriting using stencils, graphics and hand painted lettering.
- Preparing surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they’re smooth.
- Reads work order or receive instructions from Chain of Command.
- Maintains all equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
- Inspects, maintains and correctly wears items of PPE specific to the task.
- Keeps workshop tidy at all times especially at the end of each shift or working day.
- Responsibility for the use of materials and tools issued for the task including the safe storage and security and protection from the elements.
- Responsibility for delivering your own results and those of the team, keeping others informed of progress and possible problems.
- Understands and carries out all requirements under Health and Safety for the task including reading, understanding and complying with the workshop risk assessment.
- Interpret applicable rules and standards including BATUK standing orders, and all policies, functions and responsibilities, operations, and objectives of the Organisation.
- Understands relevant UK, National and local laws, codes and regulations depending on work area.
Competences/qualifications/experience:
- Essential:
- Government Trade Certificate I (Painter/signwriter).
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
- Served as a Painter for a minimum of 2 years.
- Knowledge and Experience of both Industrial and Domestic and Commercial Painting.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures.
- Principles and practices of supervision and employee development.
- Planning ahead, setting realistic targets.
- Work independently and perform duties with minimum supervision.
- Be able to comply with relevant Regulations and Codes of Practice.
- Able to work with changing priorities and uncertainty.
- Government Trade Certificate I (Painter/signwriter).
- Desirable:
- Hold valid Kenya driving licence (Class B, C1 & C).
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel.
- Policies, functions and responsibilities, operations, and objectives of the Organisation.
- Principles and practices of supervision and employee development.
- Hold valid Kenya driving licence (Class B, C1 & C).
- Structure and Function of the British Army, Defence Estates and BATUK.
- Equipment Care including Use and Maintenance.
- Health and Safety at Work.
- COSHH awareness.
- Manual Handling.
- First Aid & Fire.
- Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Legionella and Asbestos training.
- Erection and safe utilisation of scaffolding.
