Description

Role Overview

As Pearl Hospital’s Human Resource Officer, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you own the daily people-operations rhythm that keeps the hospital running fairly and efficiently. The role covers hiring, staff records, attendance and payroll inputs, performance cycles, and employee relations, so clinical and support teams can stay focused on patient care. It also gives department leaders a trusted, legally sound reference point for routine people decisions, helping build an accountable and supportive workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run end-to-end recruitment: advertise roles, screen applicants, schedule interviews, prepare offers and contracts, complete onboarding, and close out separation paperwork and final records.
  • Keep staff files and HR records accurate while monitoring attendance, leave balances, probation milestones, fixed-term renewals, and staffing gaps; prepare reliable payroll inputs.
  • Administer performance appraisal cycles, track agreed staff and departmental actions, and prompt managers to complete follow-ups on time.
  • Provide first-line guidance and documentation for disciplinary hearings, grievances, and employee relations matters, ensuring fair process and proper records.
  • Draft, review, and roll out HR policies, procedures, templates, and standard documentation in line with legal and hospital requirements.
  • Organise orientation for new hires and coordinate training, recognition, engagement, and succession-planning activities.
  • Produce workforce reports covering headcount, turnover, absenteeism, overtime, and other indicators for management decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with Kenyan employment and labour laws, professional requirements, and hospital policies; advise departmental leaders on routine HR matters.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum three years of generalist HR experience, with hands-on exposure to recruitment, performance management, employee relations, disciplinary processes, and HR administration.
  • Active membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Kenyan employment and labour legislation and the ability to apply it in everyday situations.
  • Strong written documentation, Excel, reporting, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately.
  • Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and self-direction, including the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Prior HR experience in a hospital or healthcare organisation is an added advantage.
  • CHRP-K qualification is an added advantage
