A. Background
The GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) is a German Federal enterprise that provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has over 60 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, agriculture, migration and peace and security.
In collaboration with the Government of Kenya, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implements the "Promoting Employability and Entrepreneurship in Turkana West" (ProSEET) project. This initiative, focused on Turkana West and Lokichoggio, aims to enhance socio-economic self-reliance of youth in a region marked by
limited employment opportunities, especially for youth. The following three components of the project contribute to achieving this objective:
Improving conditions for socio-economic empowerment of youth in the refugee community and the host population
Enhancing access of youth to employment-generating skills
Improving access of youth to business-related services and support
The GIZ is seeking a reliable and experienced Driver to support implementation and GIZ operations in Kakuma.
B. Summary of responsibilities
In your role, you safely and responsibly perform all journeys using company vehicles and carry out technical, manual, and other jobs related to routine maintenance and care of these vehicles. You support the maintenance of the GIZ Compound in Kakuma. You ensure that all tasks assigned to you are carried out correctly, smoothly, on time, and in compliance with the GIZ security standards.
You are responsible for keeping the information related to your work area and use this data to update on daily basis about the road conditions, current routes, and security relevant information and share it with other drivers and GIZ staff.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager as required.
Key Responsibilities
Drive staff/partners/guests/consultants in assigned vehicles.
Delivery of correspondence and documents to the premises of programme partners and other organisations.
Ensure the orderly operation and cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
Keep the vehicle’s logbooks.
Prepare the mileage charges for private and/or other programmes vehicle usage.
Manage the maintenance of assigned vehicles.
Support the preparation, transfer, assembly and dismantling of materials and equipment for different project workshops and/or meetings.
Support in procurement of small items for the project and provide support in obtaining bids for procurements.
Support with repairs and maintenance of GIZ office facilities in Kakuma.
Performed any other tasks required for the project implementation
C. Qualifications and Experience
Recognised secondary school leaving qualification
Minimum 3 years of experience as a driver
Defensive driving skills
Valid driving licence
Basic knowledge of general mechanics
Basic knowledge of MS Office and skilled internet user
Basic administrative and record-keeping skills.
Ability to perform minor repairs and facilities support tasks.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality.
Good knowledge of Turkana County and the local context
Fluency in English and Kiswahili
Fluency in Nga’turkana is an asset
