Qualifications and Experience
PhD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or a related discipline from a recognized university
OR
- Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with recognized subspecialty Fellowship training considered equivalent to a PhD in accordance with CUE guidelines and Senate approval
- Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) with a valid practicing license
- Minimum of 6 years of university teaching experience, including at least 3 years at the rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision to completion, including:
- At least 2 PhD students and 3 Master’s students OR
- At least 10 Master’s students
- At least 2 PhD students and 3 Master’s students OR
- Minimum of 32 publication points in peer-reviewed journals, including at least 3 publications since last promotion
- Contribution to scholarly book chapters or academic publications
- Evidence of successful attraction of research funding or development resources
- Demonstrated academic leadership, mentorship, and contribution to university governance
- Evidence of community engagement and professional service
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate medical students
- Supervise Master’s and PhD students
- Conduct independent and collaborative research leading to peer-reviewed publications
- Provide academic leadership within the department and school
- Participate in curriculum development, program review, and academic innovation
- Provide specialist clinical services in affiliated teaching hospitals
- Participate in departmental, faculty, and university governance structures
- Mentor junior academic staff and trainees
- Contribute to research capacity building within the department
