Description
The Cost Accountant will oversee all cost accounting activities, ensuring accurate costing of products, analysis of variances, and timely reporting to support managerial decision making. This role will collaborate closely with production, procurement, and finance teams to optimize cost structures and contribute to profitability.
Qualifications & Requirements :
- Fully Qualified ACCA / CPA or Certified Cost Accountant
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (advantageous)
- Proven track record with standard costing systems, ERP cost modules (e.g., SAP, Oracle,
Tally), and Excel based costing models.
- 10–15 years of progressive cost accounting experience in manufacturing environments.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Product & Process Costing
o Establish and maintain standard costs for all manufactured products.
o Record, monitor, and analyze actual production costs versus standard costs;
investigate variances.
o Update cost models to reflect changes in raw material prices, labor rates, and
overhead allocations.
2. Inventory Valuation & Control
o Reconcile raw‐material, work in progress, and finished‐goods inventories
monthly.
o Implement and enforce inventory‐control procedures to minimize losses and
discrepancies.
o Partner with warehouse and procurement to ensure timely and accurate stock
valuation.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
o Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and periodic forecasts for
manufacturing overhead.
o Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analyses with explanatory
notes.
o Recommend corrective actions to align actual performance with budgetary
targets.
4. Management Reporting & Analysis
o Generate monthly cost‐accounting reports, including cost‐of‐goods‐sold
(COGS) analyses and margin reports.
o Provide cost insights and trend analyses to management to support pricing,
sourcing, and process‐improvement decisions.
o Present key findings at Finance and Operations review meetings.
5. Internal Controls & Compliance
o Develop, document, and enforce cost‐accounting policies, procedures, and
internal controls.
o Ensure compliance with IFRS, local taxation requirements, and company policies.
o Facilitate internal and external audit requests related to cost and inventory
accounting.
6. Process Improvement
o Identify opportunities for cost reduction through process optimization, waste
reduction, and lean‐manufacturing initiatives.
o Lead or support cross‐functional teams in implementing cost‐saving projects.
o Track and report on realized savings and process‐improvement outcomes.
7. Team Collaboration & Mentorship
o Work closely with Procurement, Production, Quality Assurance, and Finance to
ensure integrated cost management.
o Mentor junior accounting staff; provide guidance on cost‐accounting best
practices.
o Conduct training sessions on costing systems and controls as needed.
