About Jilipesasa

Jilipesasa, a product of Sipranda Capital, is a fintech solution dedicated to improving the financial well-being of Kenya’s blue-collar workforce. Through earned wage access (EWA) and tailored financial wellness initiatives, we enable workers to access a portion of their wages before payday—supporting liquidity without the burden of predatory debt.

As we grow and deepen our impact in Kenya’s informal and low-income markets, we are looking for a skilled Credit Risk Analyst to strengthen our credit risk frameworks, ensure compliance, and build a sustainable, data-driven lending model

Role Overview

The Credit Risk Analyst will play a critical role in evaluating and managing credit risk across Jilipesasa’s employer and employee ecosystem. This includes developing risk-based underwriting models, performing financial and accounting analysis, detecting fraud, and monitoring portfolio health. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical capabilities, proficiency in tools like Excel and SQL, and a deep understanding of accounting principles to support responsible financial inclusion.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.

• At least 3 years of experience in credit risk analysis, underwriting, accounting, or portfolio management within fintech, SACCOs, MFIs, or digital lending environments.

• Strong foundation in accounting, including understanding of loan provisioning, receivables management, and financial reporting.

Core Skills and Competencies

• Risk Framework Knowledge – Skilled in designing employer-level underwriting and employee-level credit models for a B2B2C ecosystem. Regulatory credit risk management (FATF, AML, PEP etc.) as required by the relevant reporting authorities

• Data & Tool Proficiency – Advanced in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, dashboards, financial models); skilled in SQL and familiar with Python/R for data querying and model building.

• EWA-Specific Modeling – Able to build real-time income volatility models, concentration risk models, and stress tests tied to shift-based or informal income flows.

• Regulatory & Compliance Expertise – Deep knowledge of CBK guidelines, data protection laws, and ESR frameworks.

• Fraud Prevention – Skilled in anomaly detection, KYC verification, and identifying payroll fraud patterns.

• Agile Collaboration – Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product, legal, compliance, BD, and customer-facing teams in fast-paced environments.

Employer Vetting and Underwriting
• Evaluate prospective employer partners by analyzing payroll history, financial performance, industry sector risk (e.g., seasonal volatility, high churn sectors), and workforce dynamics.
• Set employer-specific credit parameters such as maximum advance limits and exposure thresholds.
• Develop and maintain prequalification scorecards for the Business Development (BD) team.

Employee-Level Guardrails

• Monitor employee payroll patterns, advance frequency, and repayment behavior to calibrate limits and prevent over-advancing.

• Integrate behavioral data into decisioning models to personalize lending rules and improve risk segmentation.

Portfolio Monitoring and Analytics
• Monitor employer concentration risk and diversify exposures to avoid over-reliance on single employers or industries.
• Implement early warning systems to detect employer financial distress (e.g., delayed payroll funding or declining headcount).
• Segment risk by employer industry, workforce tenure, and advance performance.
• Develop employer-mediated recovery strategies and track SLA adherence on recoveries.

Regulatory and Compliance
• Ensure full compliance with CBK DCP licensing regulations, Data Protection Act, wage access disclosure requirements, and ethical lending standards.
• Implement and uphold Jilipesasa’s credit policies to ensure sustainable inclusive lending practices

Accounting and Financial Oversight
• Track and reconcile credit-related transactions (advances, repayments, provisions) in collaboration with the finance and accounting teams.
• Ensure accurate recognition of earned interest, provisioning, and write-offs in line with IFRS and CBK standards.
• Support internal and external audits by maintaining audit-ready risk documentation and reconciliations.

Reporting and Stakeholder Communication
• Provide monthly and quarterly risk reports highlighting P&L impact, advance performance, credit loss trends, and recovery rates.
• Present SLA metrics, risk exposures, and portfolio health summaries to employer partners and management.
• Prepare regulatory reports demonstrating compliance and inclusion outcomes across income segments.
