Description
RESPONSIBILITIES / RESULT AREAS
  1. Identify database requirements by interviewing the end users, identifying the programming, and operation’s needs, evaluating existing system needs and responding to these needs.

  2. Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.

  3. Install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts, recommending optimum access techniques and coordinating installation requirements.

  4. Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters, implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirements and evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.

  5. Prepare users by conducting training, providing information and resolving problems.

  6. Provide information to questions and requests from other stakeholders.

  7. Support database functions by designing and coding utilities.

  8. Maintain quality service by implementing and enforcing the defined standards.

  9. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and participating in professional societies.

  10. Work with the Information / Data Architect and Database Designer / Modeler to help implement the physical data model for the development and / or production environments.

  11. Help develop and validate the database implementation plan.

  12. Support the data loads into the databases.

  13. Create database objects and maintain their physical organization / relationships.

  14. Provide input, as needed, to the development of business cases when enterprise-wide database solutions are proposed.

  15. Ensure that the application, and any enhancements, interact efficiently with the database.

  16. Develop and implement database performance monitoring process and analyze monitoring data for performance optimization opportunities.

  17. Manage the on-site backup, backup restoration and recovery process and / or support of the off-site backup and recovery teams.

  18. Plan for and execute any required database upgrades and migration (patches, etc.).

  19. Communicate database requirements to the development team for the design and implementation of database-related code.

  20. Help define back-up & recovery strategy.

  21. Help define archiving strategy.

  22. Develop and implement standards for data object naming and database design.

  23. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.

  2. Must possess Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification or its equivalent.

  3. Advanced Oracle database administration skills in high availability setups with Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Dataguard.

  4. Knowledge of:

    • Oracle multitenant architecture.

    • Unix, Linux and Windows servers.

    • RMAN backup and restore procedures and processes.

    • Tuning skills for databases.

    • Cloud technologies and migrations.

  5. Advanced knowledge of Database Security and PII Controls Implementation.

  6. Working knowledge engineered systems like Exadata database machine.

  7. Working knowledge of Commvault backup technology.

  8. Possession of an OS certification will be an added advantage.

  9. Certifications in MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres and MongoDB shall be an added advantage.

YEARS AND NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
  1. At least five (5) years of experience in administering Oracle, MS SQL and open-source databases.

  2. Proven working experience as a Database administrator.

  3. Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications.

  4. Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL.

  5. Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding.

  6. Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools.

  7. Extensive working experience and advanced knowledge in:

  8. Oracle multitenant architecture.

  9. Unix, Linux and Windows servers

  10. RMAN backup and restore procedures and processes.

  11. Cloud technologies and migrations.

  12. Commvault backup technology.

  13. Extensive performance and tuning skills for databases.

  14. Working experience with engineered systems like Exadata database machine.
