RESPONSIBILITIES / RESULT AREAS

  1. Oversee Database Administration Analysts and act as a Technical Lead to ensure databases are implemented and maintained as per best practice & standards, enforce Business continuity processes though planning & testing, enforce security compliance and lead in adoption of modern database/data management techniques and technologies

  2. Collaborate with other sections to design and implement database systems that align with the Bank’s needs and objectives. This includes implementation of tactical service improvements, upgrades, and database patching.

  3. Develop BCP strategies for the Bank’s core databases and ensuring data is at any one time, replicated to the DR site.

  4. Implement and manage security measures to protect sensitive data, including access controls, encryption, and working with auditors on the regular database security audits.

  5. Monitor and optimize database performance through techniques such as query optimization, indexing, and database tuning.

  6. Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard against data loss and ensure business continuity in case of system failures.

  7. Perform routine maintenance tasks, updates, patches, and upgrades to keep database environment current and secure.

  8. Investigate and resolve database-related issues, troubleshooting errors, and ensuring the stability of the database environment.

  9. Ensure that the database environment complies with industry regulations, organizational policies, and best practices.

  10. Stay updated on the latest developments in database technologies and recommending and adopting relevant advancements to enhance the organization's database systems.

  11. A commitment to stay updated on the latest developments in database technologies and a track record of adopting and implementing relevant advancements.

  12. Lead in the automation of patch deployment schedules using tools likeShell Scripting, PowerShell, Ansible or Terraform.

  13. Maintain database vendor relationships and ensure alignments with corresponding contracts.

  14. Maintain detailed documentations of SOPs and ISO 20000 & 27001 documentations related to database processes.

  15. Work closely with application team, infrastructure team and cyber security team to ensure seamless database operations.

  16. Any other assigned roles and responsibilities.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  2. Must be certified in Oracle Professional Certification (OCP).

  3. Certifications in MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres and MongoDB strongly recommended.

  4. Knowledge of :Oracle Cloud technologies (OCI) and migrations shall be an added advantage.

  5. Advanced knowledge of Database Security and PII Controls Implementation.

  6. Working knowledge of Commvault backup technology shall be an added advantage

  7. Possession of an OS (Unix, Linux, AIX etc) certification shall be an added advantage.


YEARS AND NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

  1. At least eight (8) years’ in-depth experience in Oracle Database Management, SQL Server, MySQL and Open-source databases such as PostgreSQL & MongoDB in an organization comparable to the Bank in terms of workload and an environment with mixed operating systems and virtualization platform such as Windows, Linux, UNIX, Microservice environment and VMware Server environment.

  2. Advanced Oracle Database Administration skills in High Availability setups with Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Data Guard.

  3. Extensive working experience in Oracle multitenant architecture databases administration, including hands-on involvement in designing, implementing, and maintaining.

  4. Advanced knowledge of RMAN backup and restore procedures and processes.

  5. Excellent performance tuning skills in databases.

  6. Experience with databases cloud technologies and data migration competence.

  7. Working experience with engineered systems like Exadata machines.

  8. Knowledge in database monitoring using tools like Enterprise Manager or Splunk ITSI.

  9. Experience in managing database-related projects, including database migrations, upgrades, and implementations.

  10. Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing database security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

  11. Proven ability to investigate and resolve database-related issues efficiently, ensuring the stability of the database environment.

  12. Proficiency in backup technologies that integrate with databases with preference of Commvault backup platform.
