Education

Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required. Supplemental training in Editorial and Desktop publishing or related area is desirable.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat. Having passed the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) in English at Headquarters, ECA, ESCWA, UNOG, UNOV, ICTR, or ICTY may be recognized in place of the GGST, pending confirmation of validity. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. The GGST is administered to applicants when required before the administration of a written assessment and/or interview.


Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience in desktop publishing, including draft typing, copy editing, proof-reading and typographical layout or related area is required.

Work experience one (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Experience with editorial rules and desktop publishing, including typographic standards, is desirable.

• Produces camera-ready documents for reproduction by formatting complex documents in desktop publishing layout; this includes data input from audio or live dictation. Incorporates changes as marked by editors, translators and revisers, ensuring that the final version of the document conforms to, as the case may be (a) the draft translation as to contents, and/or (b) the original language manuscript as to format and typography, in accordance with existing editorial guidelines.

• Performs proof-reading functions ensuring that changes have been incorporated as marked in the draft copy and alerting the responsible authority if obvious errors or discrepancies are found in the translated text.

• Stores final text on the database.

• Participates, as member of a team, in the production of parliamentary and miscellaneous documentation, supplements and sales publications, by preparing desktop publishing layout of the final product in relevant language for reproduction in hard copy and electronic dissemination.

• Assists and replaces the Assistant Supervisor, when needed.

• Takes responsibility for final verbatim records.

• Trains and guides temporary and junior staff in the processing of basic and more complex documents.

• Compiles submitted corrections and edits documents in relevant language, according to required format.

• Rotates in day and night shifts, as needed.

• Stays available for overtime and on-call assignments, depending on the needs of the service.

• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

• Ensures that requirements and background information used for data analysis are documented.

• Performs other related work as required, including verbatim and echelon service.
