Introduction

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is the apex body of the private sector in Kenya. KEPSA brings together local and foreign business associations, chambers of commerce, professional bodies, corporates (small, medium and large), start-ups and multinational companies from all sectors of the economy in the country, representing over 1 million businesses under one umbrella. The Alliance serves as a federation of over 90 Associations and professional bodies and is the focal point of the East Africa Business Council (EABC), which is the apex body of businesses in East Africa.

The Alliance enables its diverse membership of the business community to speak in one voice when engaging the Government, development partners and other stakeholders on cross-cutting policy issues affecting private sector development and engages in implementing programs that ensure the growth of businesses and the social-economic development of the country.

KEPSA supports businesses with opportunities for training, networking, financial linkages, mentorships & coaching, access to markets, value chains and investment opportunities while working closely with many partners from across the world.

Job Summary:

KEPSA seeks to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self –driven individual to
fill the position of Head of Communication. The holder of this position will oversee all communication involving the organization including the development and implementation of a communication strategy underpinning a broad and diverse
range of business and marketing communication.


Responsibilities

Job Summary:

KEPSA seeks to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self –driven individual to
fill the position of Head of Communication. The holder of this position will oversee all communication involving the organization including the development and implementation of a communication strategy underpinning a broad and diverse
range of business and marketing communication.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Communication shall;

1. Develop and implement a communication strategy for the organization that builds and maintains a positive corporate brand;

2. Oversee KEPSA’s communication and branding in various digital and traditional media platforms;

3. Provide consistent and timely information to members through various communication platforms/programs;

4. Be the corporate spokesperson and responds to members and the media in a timely manner;

5. Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with various stakeholders
including the media;

6. Assist executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, opinion pieces and other important corporate information;

7. Oversee the development and maintenance of the organization’s website including methods to deliver information, ease of navigation, clarity of information and ensures
that all content is current and relevant;

8. Be responsible for a coherent and planned approach to producing KEPSA’s
publications by coordinating the process and providing editorial support where
required;

9. Develop, implement, and adhere to the organization’s communication budget;

10. Develop and implement polices to enhance the efficiency of the communication department and ensure that a positive corporate brand is maintained;

11. Undertake any other duties as may be necessary for KEPSA to achieve its objectives.

Candidate Qualities

1. Proven work experience as Head of Communication or similar role.

2. Advanced communication and collaboration skills across a range of audiences.

3. Ability to engage with and maintain value-based relationships to facilitate the buy-in and progression of communication strategic objectives across a broad range of stakeholders - can engage at any level of an organization and its stakeholders.

4. Ability to conceptualize, create and deliver an organizational communication strategy.

5. Experience of writing, editing and producing written communication for targeted audiences -press releases, media briefs, opinion pieces etc.

6. Good team-working skills, including the ability to build consensus across teams in order to prioritize and manage work load,

7. Knowledge and experience of managing digital content,

8. Ability to coordinate efforts of various teams in order to present a coherent message.

9. Experience with social media platforms and management suites,

10. Ability to work with other stakeholders at different levels (contacts in media useful),

11. Ability to lead and manage both a direct reporting and indirect reporting teams and consultants,

12. Excellent organizational and coordination skills with attention to detail.


Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a degree preferably in mass communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or any other related discipline with at least 8 years of experience since working experience in Media, PR and/or corporate communication. The candidate should also have worked in the private sector, public sector, business membership organization or international organizations.
