Reporting to: Hotel General Manager, with adotted line to the Chief Finance Officer
Job Description.
We are looking for a reliable Hotel Accountant for our three-star hotel.
Her/His key duties will include carrying
out on a daily basis sales and cash reconciliations and ensuring that all cash
received is promptly banked and also check that posting of sales from POS to
Navision has been done accurately.
Dutiesand Responsibilities:
§ To
be responsible for computing food and beverage costs and in conjunction with
the GM/Chef, and draft a menu that has predetermined margins for all the items
in the menu.
§ To
assist the GM/Marketing team/Chef on menu costing for all events booked at the
hotel.
§ To take a leading role in the preparation and updating of the fixed asset register,
ensuring that any
acquisitions or disposals of assets is carried out within the company’s policies.
§ To ensure
bank reconciliation statements are done on a monthly
basis, and the report sent to the CFO/Senior Accountant not later than
5th of the following month.
§ To ensure
no leakage of revenue, no unauthorized discounts or complimentaries, and in addition ensure that all selling staff
(receptionists, cashiers, waiters and barmen) have surrendered and accounted
for all moneys received by them with any shortfall being addressed within 24
hours.
§ To ensure
invoices are booked
in the system, validated and reconciled with supplier’s statements
before any payment
is done.
§ To
send on daily basis the sales report and a reconciliation
report of the cash collected and sales records. Report should also indicate
deposits received from the guests.
§ To
ensure that utility bills are paid in time including all other licenses and
permits/rates to avoid late pay penalties or discontinuation/disruption of
services.
§ To ensure
proper bookkeeping is adhered to and in addition send an income
& expenditure (P&L) account in monthly basis to the
CFO including the payables aged listing.
§ To
carry out major stock-taking
exercise in conjunction with the stock controller for all inventory and fixed assets of the
hotel on a monthly basis and analyzing the reports for variances.
§ To carry out any other tasks that may be required
by the GM or the CFO from time to time.
Minimum Academic Requirements & RelevantExperience.
§ Education: A fully qualified accountant (CPA[K]) and bachelors
degree in accounting, finance or commerce.
BCom together with CPA 2 may also be considered.
§ Experience: Not
less than two years’ experience in the hotel/hospitality industry in a
senior/managerial position.
§ Skills: Strong
proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
§ Competencies: Detail-oriented,
strong leadership skills, and ability to work under pressure, outstanding integrity, confidentiality,
discipline and punctuality.
