Job Summary (Purpose of the Job)

Perform Internal Controls as per GIZ guidelines in Kenya and Somalia and offer assurance to management on the effectiveness of internal controls and risk mitigating measures. Additionally, advising management on the level of compliance with internal policies, rules & processes, statutory and regulatory requirements.




Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Standards of performance

  • Developing a comprehensive Internal control plan to cover all the activities of GIZ Kenya and Somalia.

  • Carry out Internal controls in GIZ offices according to the set standards -P&R.

  • Conducting timely risk-based internal controls and advising management on all internal control matters.

  • Reviewing and advising management on the risk management framework.

  • Assessing the reliability and integrity of procurement files, accounting and financial transactions/reports, operating procedures and compliance with set policies, rules and processes.

  • Reviewing the economic efficiency and effectiveness in the utilization of resources so

  • that objectives of the country office are achieved.

  • Providing practical solutions to improve overall efficiencies and enhance internal controls.

  • Monitoring the level of compliance with laws, regulations, policies, processes and rules.

  • Conducting investigations on suspected internal fraud and corruption.

  • Proactively keeping management aware of emerging trends regarding internal controls, risk management and internal auditing.

  • Ensure that fixed assets are safeguarded, their physical condition is proper, they exist and they are correctly valued.

  • Preparing and presenting accurate internal control reports to management.

  • Liaising with internal auditors when office audits are undertaken.


Other duties

  • Updating the commercial and administration crisis plan jointly with all HODs.

  • Facilitating completion of hand over documents for Country Director and Head of Finance and administration.

  • Carry out commercial suitability checks (KEP) on request by management.

  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required for this Position

  • Skills in oral and written communication, long and short-term planning, familiarity with a wide range of finance /accounting systems and financial analysis.

  • Good analytical and reporting skills.

  • Very good written and spoken English

  • High integrity and honesty.


Minimum Academic & Professional Qualifications, Experience

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree preferably in Commerce (Accounting) or equivalent.

  • Master’s degree in finance or a business-related field will be an added advantage.

  • Holder of CPA (K) and a member of ICPAK.

  • Membership to the Institute of Internal Auditors or Certified Fraud examiners (CFE) will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in a reputable audit firm.

  • Experience of carrying out assignments in fragile countries will be an added advantage.

  • Hands on experience with MS Office packages.


Duty station: Nairobi


Contract Duration: Initial Contract to run until 31.12.2026 with a possibility of extension
